FCC: Ontario East too much for Nova Scotia in 5th place game

Ontario East and Nova Scotia played for 5th place at the 2012 Football Canada Cup.  Ontario East dominated play but Nova Scotia made it interesting late with 2 big special team plays that resulted in touchdowns.

Ontario East started with the ball deep in their end an methodically put together a scoring drive.  The score was a screen pass from George Papadakis (Whitby) to Andrew Ellis (Greely).  Nova Scotia answered the score on a 76 yard rouge single by Chase Kodejs (Beford) last in the opening quarter.  Ontario East dominated the time of possession and lines of scrimmage but did not capitalize on some long drives.  A 22 yard field goal by Michael Domagala (St. Catherines) put Ontario up 10 to 1.  Late in the half Ontario East again drove the ball, and on the second play of a 1st and goal Papadakous called his own number with a sneak touchdown with 34 seconds remaining on the clock.  Nova Scotia first play from scrimmage was what looked like a ‘pick 6’ touchdown by Ontario East’s Austin Spilotro (Richmond Hill), but an illegal block nullified it and his team settled for another Domagala field goal.  Halftime score was Ontario East 20 Nova Scotia 1.

The third quarter started as a battle of punters and defense.  The first big play was an interception by Nova Scotia’s Nate Rostek (Stillwater Lake), giving his offense great field position on the Ontario 40 yard line.  The Ontario East forced a punt after two plays but they muffed the return and Nova Scotia recovered on the 4 yard line.  One play later David Nisbet (Halifax) scored and made it a twelve point game, 20 to 8.  The ensuing kick off Ontario East’s Andrew Ellis returned the ball to the Nova Scotia 38 yard line.  Not able to move the chains, Ontario East lined up for a 45 yard line.  The Domagala attempt was wide and returned out of the end zone by Nova Scotia.  Again the Ontario East defense came up big and stopped the Nova Scotia offense, forcing the special teams to give up a safety touch on the first play of the fourth quarter.  Not long after Nova Scotia capitalized on another Ontario East muffed punt, this time in the end zone, putting the bluenosers only down by 7 points.  The last 3 minutes of the game saw Ontario pull away, first with a Domagala field goal.  Nova Scotia answered with a field goal of their own by Kodejs, but a late Pelle Jorgen (Toronto) touchdown settled the game.
