As the start Football Canada Cup is quickly approaching, CFC will be featuring quarterbacks from the participating provincial teams.  Today, the focus in on tournament quarterbacks from Nova Scotia and Ontario East and Ontario West.

Team Nova Scotia:
Scott Borden:

Scott has enjoyed success as pivot of the Halifax West Warriors of the Nova Scotia Student Athletic Federation Football League (NSSAFFL).  The Class of 2013 star amassed 1623 total passing yards and 21 passing touchdowns in the 2011 NSSAFFL season with the Warriors.  Additionally, Scott suited up for the junior varsity Halifax Redhawks of the Nova Scotia Varsity Football League (NSVFL).

The Nova Scotia quarterback is ecstatic to have the opportunity to represent his hometown province at the tournament in London, Ontario.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to represent Nova Scotia at a national level and I’m excited about playing against the top players in the country in my age group,” adds Scott.  “It is because the team has been working really hard and the coaching staff has done a good job preparing us for this event.”

“I’m excited to see all our hard work pay off.”

Sean Muir:

A newcomer to football, Sean only began his gridiron career this past season with the Charles P Allen Cheetahs of the Nova Scotia Student Athletic Federation Football League (NSSAFFL).  However, he quickly has emerged into a top quarterback in his hometown province.  This past spring, he suited up for the junior varsity Metro Mustangs of the Nova Scotia Varsity Football League and led the team to the championship game.  While the team lost to eventual champions, the Timberlea Renegades, Sean put in an admirable performance in the game.

While this may not be the first time or sport that Sean has represented his province, he doesn’t take this opportunity for granted.

“It means a lot to represent Nova Scotia because I am proud of where I am from and I want to do my part to prove to the rest of the provinces that Nova Scotia is a team to look out for,” comments the young quarterback.  “I have had experiences representing Nova Scotia in other sports so I know that it doesn’t come often that you get to perform on a national stage while wearing the Nova Scotia jersey.”

Team Ontario East:
George Papadakos:

Throughout his young gridiron career, George has worked his way to becoming one of the top quarterbacks to come out of Ontario.  He’s enjoyed a successful campaign with his high school team, the Donald Wilson Gators of the Lake Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (LOSSAA).  During his time there, he led the team to a junior Metro Bowl championship in 2009 and a senior Metro Bowl championship this past season. Moreover, the Ontario East quarterback has been junior team offensive MVP in 2009, senior team rookie of the year in 2010 and senior team offensive MVP this past season.
George has also suited up for the peewee Oshawa Hawkeyes of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).  In 2009, he was team MVP.

The Ontario East pivot is looking forward to the opportunity of playing on the national stage at the Football Canada Cup tournament.

“It means a lot for me to be representing Ontario East because I am also representing my town and all the teams I have played for,” explains George.  “To be selected as one of the top players in Ontario is a great honour and I am looking forward to showcasing my skills at the tournament.”

Team Ontario West:
James Roberts:

James is making a return appearance to the Football Canada Cup.  This will be the second straight appearance for him as he participated at last year’s tournament, which was held in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Beginning his football career in grade nine with the Jacob Hespeler Hawks of the Waterloo Secondary School Athletic Association (WCSSAA), James proved why anytime he’s touched the football; it turns into a golden moment.  He captained the Hawks to a junior “A” league championship title. For his efforts that season, the young quarterback was named the school’s junior athlete of the year.   James also led the senior Hawks team to the “A” league championship game this past season.  He was honoured for his exceptional play on the field as he was senior team offensive MVP and selected to the Golden Horseshoe Rising Stars team that participated in an all-star game this past spring at McMaster University.
Moreover, James found success while suiting up for the Cambridge Lions of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).  In his first season with the team, he helped the Lions get all the way to the championship game, only to lose to the eventual champions, the Brampton Bulldogs.

While this may be the second time he will be participating in the tournament, James is equally excited about the opportunity to don the provincial jersey once again.

“It is truly an honour to represent half of my province in the Canada Cup because I know that not everyone is blessed with this opportunity to excel their game and compete with the best in Canada at the under-18 age level,” says James.  “I am very thankful for being selected and cannot wait to go out there at TD Waterhouse stadium with “Ontario” written on my chest for the second time.”

“I hope to improve on our last year’s result and help contribute to a gold medal for Team Ontario West.”

Kyle VanWynsberghe:
In the junior varsity season with the Hamilton Ironmen of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL), Kyle led the Adams Division and ranked second in the OVFL league in passing yards.  He amassed a total 1706 yards.   Other than the Ironmen, the young pivot has also suited up for the Brantford Bisons of the Ontario Minor Football League (OMFL) and for his high school, the Delhi Raiders of the Norfolk Secondary Schools Athletic Association (NSSAA).

Kyle was MVP of the OVFL Prospects Game and was also selected to the Golden Horseshoe Team that participated in the all-star game at McMaster University this past spring.  Furthermore, the Ontario West quarterback won the Damon Allen High School Quarterback Challenge in which he received a $20,000 scholarship.  He’s also been Raiders MVP and Ironmen offensive MVP.

Once he found out he would be representing his home province at the Football Canada Cup, it was a dream realized for Kyle.

“Playing for Team Ontario West has been one of my goals for a couple years now,” comments Kyle.  “It’s a real honour to be selected to represent Ontario in this year’s Football Canada Cup.”
