Football Canada Cup QB Preview: Quebec’s Chenard, New Brunswick’s Lebans and White

As the Football Canada Cup is fast approaching, CFC will be featuring quarterbacks from participating provincial teams.Ā Ā In this section, we will be focusing on pivots from Quebec and New Brunswick.

Team Quebec:
Samuel Chenard:

In the Quebec football ranks, Samuel has proven that he’s been a valuable player to many football teams.Ā Ā This past season, the young quarterback had a completion rate of 67 percent while amassing 1352 passing yards, 12 touchdown passes, and five touchdowns.Ā Ā Moreover, he had 24 carries for 159 total yards.

Among the teams Samuel has played for include the Blizzard du Seminaire St-Francois in Quebec and Notre Dame of CNDF in GEGEP.Ā Ā The Notre Dame team competes in the juvenile AAA 1st Division.Ā Ā This past season, the Team Quebec quarterback was named the team’s offensive player of the year.Ā Ā Moreover, Samuel has been equally successful playing on special teams, as evidenced by winning two consecutive league kicker MVP awards (2010, 2011).

By representing his hometown province at the Football Canada Cup, the Quebec quarterback says it’s a dream come true.

“I’m very proud to represent Team Quebec,” comments Samuel.Ā Ā “It’s a goal that I wanted to realize in my football career.”

“IĀ like to represent the elite of my province and to prove that we are on top.”

Team New Brunswick:
Jeremie Lebans:

Jeremie has steadily developed into one of the top high school football quarterbacks in his home province.Ā Ā He began his gridiron career with the Moncton Football Association (MFA) and remained with the organization for five seasons.Ā Ā For the last three seasons, Jeremie has started in the pivot position for his high school team, the Odyssee Olympiens of the New Brunswick High School Football League (NBHSFL).

In 2011, Jeremie put up impressive statistics:Ā Ā 1175 passing yards and threw for 13 passing touchdowns. Among the honours he’s received during his career include rookie of the year (2007), MFA offensive MVP (2008) and MVP finalist (2011). Jeremie is also currently serving as a captain on the Olympiens.

Without a doubt, having the opportunity of representing his home province at the Football Canada Cup is the highlight of his career and he hopes to make the most of the experience.

“It means a lot to be representing my province for a Canada wide tournament,” says Jeremie.Ā Ā  “It will be a memorable experience for me to get a chance to go to a tournament where New Brunswick has not gone for a number of years.”

It gives us a chance to show Canada that New Brunswick football is a lot better than people realise.”

Alex White:
Alex began his gridiron career in 2006 with the Capital Area Minor Football Association (CAMFA).Ā Ā During his time with CAMFA, he played for the New Maryland Rams, George Street Crusaders, Devon Wildcats/Gladiateurs du Pointe Sainte Anne, and the Northside junior Lions.

The Team New Brunswick pivot has been the recipient of several honours over the course of his playing career including runner-up in the fastest player competition (2006, 2010), Devon Wildcats/Gladiateurs de Pointe Sainte Anne Most Valuable Player (2008), CAMFA Most Sportsmanlike Middle School Player (2008), junior lions Most Outstanding Offensive Player (2010) and CAMFA Bantam unsung hero award (2010).Ā Ā As for team awards, Alex has been part of three CAMFA league silver medallists honours (2006, 2007, 2009), Northside Bowl championship (2008), most sportsmanlike team in the province (2008) and North South Bowl championship (2010).Ā Ā Most recently, the pivot won a provincial junior varsity championship as a receivers coach at Leo Hayes.

Being a member of Team New Brunswick is the most significant achievement of Alex’s career and he is proud of the accomplishment of being able to represent his home province.

“It’s a huge honour to be representing New-Brunswick in the London, Ontario Football Canada Cup,” says Alex.Ā Ā “To be the first New Brunswick team to enter this national competition in a decade is a great step forward for the province.”

“Since I attend the only French high school in the region (Ecole Sainte-Anne), which is too small to have a football team, it has been an especially great achievement to make the New Brunswick team.”
