NCAFA (Ottawa Minor): Week 2 report


Week two is in the books, week three is underway for The National Capital Amateur Football Association.

This long weekend features games Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday! A reminder that Monday is “NCAFA DAY” at the University Of Ottawa Gee Gee’s home opener vs. Western at Lansdowne Park at 1pm.

Here’s a recap of some of last week’s games.

TYKE (U11)

Gloucester South Raiders blanked the Orleans Bengals 48-0. Dante Blizzard and Prince Inanzala each had a pair of TD’s, while Brandon Holmes, Carlvin Simonis and Jesse Assaf each crossed the goal line once. Alex Ferguson kicked two converts.

It was tied at the end of the half, but the Nepean Redskins topped the Bell Warriors 56-37, thanks largely to 9 TD’s from Tyrell Brown who got some great blocks from FB Michael Slattery. CB Osa Ekior lead the ‘D’ in tackles, and had an interception.

Kanata Knights beat the Bel-Air Copeland Lions 25-7. Shabach Kerr had 95 yards rushing and two TD’s. Sutton Allard rushed for a major. Knights ‘D’ was led by Jarod Wakeman, Adam Goodfellow & Sebastien Vienneau, while Britton Quirk and Kane Obas each came up with fumble recoveries. Knights’ Christian Meliambro had a spectacular interception.

MOSQUITO (U13)

For the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] week in a row, Nepean Redskins QB Jacob Spinella scored on a 35 yard run that finally put the Redskins on the board in a 37-8 loss to the Warriors.

Kanata Knights O-Line players Nevan Carter and Patrick Massia chipped away at the Lions’ D, but Bel Air came up with a 30-0 victory.

PEE WEE (U15)

Kanata beat Bel Air with a solid 18-0 win. Liam Mellor lead with 203 rushing yards, 20 yards on kick off returns, and the team’s first TD of the season.

Gloucester South Raiders overwhelmed the Orleans Bengals 62-28. 2 TD’s each by Lascelles Lawrence and Daniel Obiang, plus four scored by Didi Vaillancourt.

Nepean Redskins had an early 9-0 lead, but Jesse Skucas had a TD late in the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] to give the Bell Warriors a 9-6 lead at the half. Bell’s D took control in the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] half. An interception return by the Redskins made it 20-17 with 4 minutes to play. Mitch Henselwood ran 40 yards to seal the deal for Bell who won 27-17.

BANTAM (U17)

Kanata Knights won their 2010 opener with a 17-0 win over Bel-Air. Kanata scored on its second series with a 55 yard pass from Nick Gorgichuk to rookie Chris Bumstead. Mitchell Graham lead the ‘D’ with 5 solo tackles and 4 assisted, 1 forced fumble and 1 solo and assisted sack. Harrison da Costa (3 solo tackles, 2 assisted, 1 assisted sack and 1 batted ball) and Justice Maci (3 solo tackles and 2 assisted tackles), shut down the Lions recording 2 sacks. Jordan Gorgichuck had an interception.

Connor Rockwell had an outstanding game for Gloucester, with several long punt returns and receptions. Amer El Zammer ran over 40 yards for a TD behind the lead blocking of FB Matt Damiano Wilson. Orleans Bangles win though, 22-15.Nepean Redskins 16, Bell Warriors 6. Graham Smyth scored 2 TD’s in the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] quarter. Chris Ermel set the tone for Nepean’s D with a big sack while Jordon Doucette had an interception.

Myers Riders struck early and often, beating Canterbury 60-0. QB Costa Jones threw for 4 TD’s. Tunde Adeleke, Damon Barlow, Rouben Charles, Joey Valentino, Emir Oguz and Jesse Lirette all scored for Myers. Shayne Cowan-Cholette stood out on D, with several tackles.

MIDGET (U20)

Nepean Redskins won 17-9 in coach Steve Viau’s first game against his former team, The Ottawa Colts. McKenzie Tommy had 18 carries, 113 all purpose yards and 1 TD while James Mau had 1 solo tackle and 9 assists.
