Ontario Minor Football League Championship

It was a hot day at Ivor Wynne Stadium on Sunday July 31 2011 for the Steelers Football Club which was hosting 3 divisional semi-final playoff games with all 3 Steelers teams advancing to the Championships next weekend at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke.

The Tyke Steelers ( 6-8 year olds) did not play this weekend but will also be playing on Championship weekend Saturday Aug 6,

In only 4 season the Steelers football club has existed has now two years in a row sent these 3 divisions to the big game.

Deja vu
In 2010 all 3 of these Steelers team made it to the championship games but it was only the JV Steelers team that came away with the trophy which they are working very hard to repeat.

The Bantam team came close in 2010 but with injuries and missing key players to their roster had a hard tough battle against the well prepared TNT team. This Steelers Bantam team will be ready for this Sunday Vs Halton Hills .

Varsity Steelers lost the Championship game in 2010 to Clarrington Knights , with many missed opportunities and turnovers which saw the Steelers lose 6-2 . The 2011 Varsity team is hungry to prove they have what it takes to be champions should be a great game next Sunday Aug 7 3pm Steelers Vs Tnt Express

Steelers Bantam Team ( 8-1) Finished the 2011 regular season first overall

The Steelers Bantam team has advanced to league championship 3 years in a row after derailing the Tnt Express on Sunday 56-0 has them facing Halton Hills in the 2011 Championship Sunday Aug 7 12pm at Centennial Stadium.

Steelers JV Team ( 9-0 ) Finished the 2011 regular season First overall and undefeated

Meeting up with the Brantford Bisons for the first time this year after they knocked off the 3rd place Cambridge Lions in quarter final action a week earlier .
The Steelers opened the game scoring on the first play of the game and never looked back . The Bisons had some good opportunities but just could not execute while the Steelers capitalized every chance they got , out scoring the Bisons 46-0 The Steelers JV team advances to the league championship for the 3 year in a row and looking for a repeat .

Steelers Varsity Team ( 9-0 ) Finished the 2011 regular season First overall and undefeated

The Varsity team played the Halton Hills Crimson Tide formally in the OVFL in semi final playoff action Sunday which saw some great football action , The Steelers scored off the opening kick off by rookie Matt Tornifoglia taking the kick back 100 yards to the endzone .Quarterback Milan curric threw 2 touchdown passes one to Cody Crichton for 55 yards and another late in the fourth quarter to Jordan Kinnard for a 10 yard TD , Donovan Saunders added to the scoring with 3 PAT and a 12 yard field goal.The Steelers defense was solid all the way around like it has been all season with a bend but don’t break attitude and playing very aggressive style football which is hammer town football . Steelers had big play from Max Catterson , Brandon Morden , Matt Long (Dover) Brock Gurcia , Dean Hrischenko , Kody Baxter , Joe Christmas and the rest of the Steelers Defense .Steelers advance to the league championship for the second time in as many years the club has had a Varsity team beating Halton 24-10
