Ontario Playdowns: Knights, Lions, Trojans, & Falcons move on

Ontario Bowl playdowns continue to heat up.Ā  The last 10 days should be a spectacular finish, culminating in the Bowl finals on Tuesday November 27th at Rogers Center.

Saturday Games Results:

Northern Bowl Region:

Playdown: CFC ‘HM’ St. Mary’s Knights (Sault Ste. Marie) CFC ‘HM’ 38 St. Joseph Scollard Hall Bears (North Bay) 10

Sault Ste. Marie teams have won the NOSSA bowl playdown game dating back to 1995.Ā  Bears’ QB Landon Larabie threw for more than 300 yards during the loss.

Thunder Bay Championship: Sir Winston Churchill Trojans 19 Hammarskjold Vikings 14

Third city title in four years for the Trojans.Ā  Resorted to the running game to win the championship, despite relying on strong-armed QB Jarred White during the regular season.

Western Bowl Region:

Playdown: CFC ‘HM’ Assumption Lions (Brantford) 31 Sir John A. MacDonald (Waterloo) 17

Ball hawking defense paced the Lions to a playdown victory.Ā  Laurier commit Anthony Powless had 5 receptions and 1 touchdown, QB Austin Sault was 9 of 12 passing for 101 yards and 1 touchdown.Ā  RB Chris Lewis had 112 yards on 19 carries and 2 touchdowns.Ā  The defense was led by Tyson Erskine, Joshua Tait, Drew Tlustos, and Levi Jamieson.

Playdown (Friday): CFC ‘HM’ John F. Ross Royals (Guelph) 25 Saugeen Royals (Port Elgin) 19

Last play game saving tackle at the 1/2 yard line propelled the Guelph Royals to the next round of the Western Bowl playdowns.Ā  Ross came from behind after being down 16 to 1 after the opening quarter.Ā  QB Alex Turvey threw to receiver Jake Frimeth (picture) for the winning score.

National Capital Bowl:

Playdown: CFC #23 Frontenac Falcons (Kingston) CFC ‘HM’ 42 St. Peter’s Knights (Ottawa) 32

Injuries and discipline issues had the Knights down a few players to start but it would not have mattered as the Falcons went out to a big lead (35 to 0 at half) and held on late.Ā  QB Tyler Filson continued his tremendous season for the Falcons.
