Ontario (York): Lions maul Colts

The King City Secondary School Senior Boys Football Lions opened their season this past Saturday with a convincing 28-6 victory over a much-improved Bill Crothers Colts squad from Unionville. The Lions dominated on both sides of the ball but the Offense, led by quarterback, Josh Baird, ensured that this game was never in doubt.

The Lions opened the scoring on their first possession with a Josh Baird 40 yard pass to Connor MacCallum. In the 2nd Quarter, Baird demonstrated his running ability as he scampered for a 44 yard touchdown to make the score 14-0. The Lions opened the 3rdquarter by showcasing their run game in a time consuming 9 minute, 83 yard drive capped by a Marcus Arkarakas 7 yard run to put the Lions in front 21-0. The Lions increased their lead to 28-0 as Julian Gutierrez took a Baird hitch pass inside the Colts’ 15 yard line and bulldozed his way to pay dirt. With under 2 minutes to play, the Colts were able to thwart King’s shutout bid as they capitalized on a King City fumble in the Lions’ red zone and drove the short field for a touchdown. Up next for the Lions are Markham’s Brother Andre Cardinals Thursday, September 27 at 8:00pm at Brother Andre.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
