OVFL JV/Peewee: Who will win Wildcard playoff games?

CFC has been at work compiling a coaches poll on who will win this weekends games. The results were not unanimous which means a good weekend of football is ahead. Here are the results:

Four coaches (OVFL and CIS) helped in the predictions.

JUNIOR VARSITY
Mississauga Warriors (3-5) at London Falcons (6-2 *1 OTL )
Saturday July 31st – 3pm – TD Waterhouse Stadium, London

This is an intriguing match up. Mississauga is better than there record reflects due to forfeits. Our coaches chose to flip a coin on this one. Adam Sinclair is the work horse for London rushing for over 1300 yards in the regular season. The warriors must limit the running game of London in order to have success. Warriors Ben Osmow, Adam Selvaggio, and Rowan Bockhouse will have to have big games for the warriors to win.

Heads…London 24 Warriors 18

Hamilton Ironmen (5-3) at Guelph Bears (6-2)
Saturday July 31st – 1pm – Alumni Field

No longer the ‘bad news bears’ guelph won games playing great defense. The ironmen used a similar forumla. The bears will lean on the defensive play of linebacker stewart vandermade. The ironmen will look for big plays from receiver Jordan Brucculeri who finished the year with 500 yards receiving. Another pick ’em for our coaches.

Tails…Ironmen 21 Bears 16

Kingston Grenadiers (5-3) at Brampton Bulldogs (6-2)
Saturday July 31st – 3pm – Creditview Park

Brampton enters this game on a hot streak, winning their last 6 (after 2 forfeits). They enter the game as the clear favourite in this match up. The grenadiers will need great defensive play from Jason Erwin, Joshua Hill, and Sam Jamieson. The bulldogs will look for QB Christian Strong (1478 yards, 13 TDs, 4 INTs) to lead the way.

Bulldogs 29 Grenadiers 15

Toronto Thunder (5-3) at Etobicoke Eagles (5-3)
Saturday July 31st – 6:30pm – Centennial Stadium

These two teams played in week 3 with the eagles prevailing by a score of 12 to 3. Since then the eagles have gone 2 and 3 and the thunder have gone 4 and 1. The thunder will have to limit the effectiveness of eagle running back Kingsley Amankwaa and receiver Nathaniel Pinto to be successful…the defense led by linebacker Deshane Lewis should be up for the task. The eagles will have to shake off the rust and limit the thunder running game which is lead by Jayde Rowe and Omar Williams.

Thunder 24 Eagles 14

PEEWEE

Hamilton Ironmen (3-5) at Mississauga Warriors (7-1)
Saturday July 31st – 10am – St. Marcellenius

Looking at the teams records you would think this one to be a mismatch. The teams played one another in week 2 with the warriors prevailing by a score of 22 to 0. The ironmen have not beat a playoff team. Line play will be key in this one. Warriors defensive line, led by Gurant Singh, Mark Horta, Nikil Arora, and Amato Marandola will have to come up big against the ironmen offensive line that are looking to protect for QB Liam Putt and open up holes for running back Justin Lloyd.

Warriors 21 Ironmen 10

London Falcons (3-5) at Essex Ravens (6-2)
Sunday August 1st – 1pm – Essex District HS

Another one that looks to be a mismatch by their records but never judge a windsor vs. london match up on records. They played one another 2 weeks ago with Essex coming out on top 35 to 18. If essex can contain london running backs Greg Cherniak and Sinjon Crombleholme it could be a long day for the visitors. The ravens present a challenge to the london defense with QB Bryan Rosati, who led the team in passing (728 yards, 8 TDs, 5 INTs) and rushing (403 yards, 4 TDs). Stop rosati = stop the ravens.

Essex 21 Falcons 20

Brampton Bulldogs (4-4) at Toronto Thunder (6-2)
Sunday August 1st – 12 noon – Birchmount Stadium

These teams did not face one another in the regular season which will mean an interesting match up. The thunder present the bulldogs with a balanced defensive attack and a running game led by Rakeem Simms, Nathaniel Johnson, and Kurtis Burton. The bulldogs counter with the one-man show of Ryan Hussett (1335 yards, 12 TDs) who was 2nd in league rushing. Shoot out favours the bulldogs who scored the most points in their conference.

Bulldogs 28 Thunder 24

Pickering Dolphins (4-4) at Cumberland Panthers (5-3 *1 OTL)
Saturday July 31st – 1 pm – Millenium Field

These teams played an entertaining week 5 game with cumberland prevailing by a score of 13 to 8. Both teams play solid defense so it will be big plays that decide this game. Big play players for cumberland included DB Jason Azzi (7 INTs), and running backs Rashari Sommerville-Henry, Dimitri Vaillancourt, and Jayden King who all had runs of over 60 yards. Pickering counters with running backs Nathaniel Fermin and Matthew Boateng and QB Raishaun Provo. Another pick’em.

Tails…Pickering 17 Cumberland 12

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
