NCAA Signing Day 2018: Johnson leaves London behind signing with Kent State

CFC100 Daniel Johnson (CFC50 Catholic Central, ON)
This one slipped past the radar heading into Signing Day, but Daniel Johnson is preparing to make the leap straight from the Canadian gridiron to the NCAA after officially signing with Kent State

Johnson is trying to follow in the footsteps of his brother George Johnson who currently plays for the Montreal Alouettes in the CFL, and he seems to be on the right path after tearing up the field at Catholic Central in London who’re one of the top high school programs in the country. There were a lot of freakish athletes on the CFC100 this year, but at 6’5”, 265lbs he was able to stand out with his versatility playing linebacker, defensive line and tight end with there being nobody who could really match his combination of size and strength.

We had him on the CFC50 All-Canadian list as a d-linemen, but with him already embodying the size of a prototypical NFL tight end, it’s no surprise Kent State plans to keep him on the offensive side of the ball where he can become a reliable target in the pass-happy MAC Conference. The Golden Flash have suffered a few setbacks in recent years, but it wasn’t too long ago in 2012 that they finished with an 8-0 conference record, and they’ve also become known as a program who can produce pro talent with their alumni including Julian Edelman, Antonio Gates (basketball), Joshua Cribbs, James Harrison, and current Toronto Argonauts defensive back Rico Murray.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
