NCAA Signing Day 2018: Obiang settles on signing with Sacred Heart

CFC100 DL Sammy Obiang (Woodbridge, VA)
Sammy Obiang has done some travelling during his football career, so it must be nice to know he can now settle in for at least a few years after signing with Sacred Heart University.

Obiang was originally born in China due to his parents work commitments, he then ended up in Ottawa some time later where took up football as a freshman. He took a liking to the game over his first love of basketball and decided to make the leap to Canada Prep to test his skills against American competition – and then all off a sudden a clearer picture of what the future may hold developed. Obiang’s mother eventually moved to Washington, DC for work, which is how he ended up at Woodbridge Academy in Virginia. Once there he shocked the coaches with his god-given abilities on the field despite hailing from the Great White North, and he continued his upward trajectory helping the Vikings to a 13-2 record and 20th ranked in the State in 2017. For his efforts he was named to the CFC10 All-Canadian list and earned a spot on the Divisional All-Star team.

Obiang entertained interest on both sides of the border with his dominant work ethic shining through on film, but ultimately Sacred Heart swooped in to steal the big man away from any potential suitors. The Pioneers are current members of FCS Northeast Conference and are looking to get back into the playoffs picture for the first time since 2013 when they last won the Conference Title.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
