After a couple weeks of uncertainity, Farhan Lalji reported on Twitter yesterday afternoon that U Sports will not will not extend age restrictions for players over 25.
The news comes after U Sports announced last month that they would be cancelling their fall athletics schedule, leaving many athletes wondering what this meant for their eligibility or recruiting plan.
U Sports have not made any official statements, but Lalji spoke via text with Chris Morris, head coach at the University of Alberta and president of the Canadian University Football Coaches Association (CUFCA), who stated that the committee voted unanimously to extend the age cap for all student athletes, but U Sports decided to ignore their recommendation.
As a result, Morris also stated he’ll be stepping down as president of the CUFCA due to the decision.
We will provide an update when an official statement is released by U Sports.
