Blues host Redmen in preseason showdown on Saturday

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team meets the McGill Redmen in their 153rdĀ meeting this Saturday, August 23 at Varsity Centre.

Kick off for the Old Four rivalry is set for 1 p.m. The game isĀ free and open to the publicĀ and will also be streamed live at OUA.tv.

The two teams last met on Aug. 28, 2010, where the Redmen walked away with a 40-17 victory. U of T holds the upper hand with a lifetime 95-51-6 head-to-head series record, dating back to 1881.

These two staples in Canadian university football have much to be proud of with both programs producing exceptional student-athletes. McGill’s Laurent Duvernay-Tardif was taken in the sixth round (200th overall) of this year’s NFL draft (Kansas City Chiefs) and the two teams combined for seven draft picks in this year’s CFL draft (Toronto 4, McGill 3).

Toronto is coming off a 4-4 record in 2013, their best finish since the 1993 Yates and Vanier Cup championship season.

McGill finished 2013 with a 3-5 record in the RSEQ, with two wins over Concordia and one over Mount Alison.
