PREVIEW (RSEQ 1x): Carabins in town for tilt with Gaiters

SHERBROOKE. ā€“ A short week and a nationally-ranked opponent for the third time in as many games on Coulter Field.Ā  That is what the Bishopā€™s Gaiters face on Saturday, Oct. 25 when the No. 4 Montreal Carabins are in town for aĀ 1 p.m.Ā kickoff in RSEQ University Football.

Bishopā€™s (1-5) lostĀ SundayĀ in Quebec City to the No.1 ranked Laval Rouge et Or (6-0).Ā  Laval was coming off their bye week as is Montreal (5-1) this week who has not played since Oct. 11. Bishopā€™s has their hands full but knows they must win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Gaiters need to win their remaining two games,Ā SaturdayĀ against Montreal, andĀ Nov. 1Ā versus Sherbrooke (3-3) when the Mayorā€™s Cup is on the line.Ā  They also need the Concordia Stingers (4-2) to beat Sherbrooke across townĀ on Saturday.

Earlier this season the Gaiters fell 41-7 to the Carabins in Montreal. In that contest Montreal took control early, 31-0 at halftime, and cruised to the victory.

Since the Gaitersā€™ bye week after their homecoming loss to Mount Allison (7-0) they have given all three quarterback time on the field.Ā  Shane McDonald (Uxbridge, Ont.), Alexandre Bouffard (Sherbrooke, Que.) and Travis Eman (Brampton, Ont.) have all had their playing time.

ā€œItā€™s going to be tough,ā€ said Gaiters coach Kevin Mackey. ā€œWe have to take it one play at a time and work our butts of each and every down.Ā  This is CIS football; you never know what can happen. We know what we have to do to make the playoffs and weā€™ll let everything else take care of itself.ā€

The Bishopā€™s Gaiters host the Montreal Carabins on Saturday, Oct. 25 on Coulter Field.Ā  Kickoff is set forĀ 1 p.m.
