In week #3 from Monday, September 15 to Thursday, September 19, 2014 Northern Saskatchewan
Football had a plenty of exciting football action from the border of Alberta to the border of Manitoba.
In this week Cameco Corporation provided a $30,000 sponsorship for the further development of
facilities, equipment and players in the north.
On Monday the Green Lake Spirits played their very first game in Pinehouse. Pinehouse won the
game by a score of 80-19, on the strength of four first quarter touchdowns (TDs) and seven kicked
conversions by Johnny Tinker. Two firsts occurred by female players in that game. Geena Smith of
Pinehouse scored the first TD by a female and Alicia Bottrell recorded a quarterback sack. On Tuesday,
the Buffalo Narrows Eagles needed overtime touchdown by Tkay Pederson to beat La Loche by a
score of 32-26 at the Lakers home opener. All of La Locheās points were scored by Dustin Montgrand,
while Buffalo TDs were scored by Tkay Pederson, Jason McCallum and Scott Young. On Wednesday,
Senator Myles Venne will travel to Sandy Bay. The Sandy Bay T-Wolves, won their first game of the
season with a score of 54-18 on the strength of four TDs by Ivan McCallum. Senator Myles had two
TDs from Mitchell Bear and one from Colton Morin. In the inaugural game at Creighton, the hometown
Kodiaks had four TDs by Evan Linnick and two from Chris Reynolds to defeat the Cumberland House
Islanders 51-14. In SHSAA provincial conference four, the Rosthern Huskies played in La Ronge
and beat the Chargers 68-33. This game was sponsored by Northland College and had CEO, Toby
Greschner unveil a new football score clock provided by Northlands.
Looking ahead to week #4, on Monday, Senator Myles Venne Huskies travel to Cumberland House
to play the Islanders. On Tuesday, Pinehouse will try to remain unbeaten for the season with a trip
to Buffalo Narrows. On Wednesday, Green Lake will have their home opener against the Beauval
Voyageurs. La Rongeās game in Spiritwood has been rescheduled to Wednesday. On Thursday, the
Sandy Bay T-Wolves will play in Creighton against the Kodiaks.
At the end of the third week, Pinehouse Lakers are unbeaten and top of the of the Western Division
with a 3-0 record. Leading the Eastern Division, Creighton Kodiaks are 2-0. Leading play in offensive
statistics is Johnny Tinker from Pinehouse with 90 points. On defense, Dustin Montgrand leads with
five quarterback sacks. Nine players have each had an interception.
