Dean, Mitchell and Davis named Shaw CFL Top Performers

Tuesday, September 20, 2016 — TORONTO (September 20, 2016) – Larry Dean, Bo Levi Mitchell and Emanuel Davis were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 13 of the CFL’s 2016 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

LB | LARRY DEAN | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Hamilton Tiger-Cats linebacker Larry Dean was a key contributor in the team’s 20-17 comeback victory over the Montreal Alouettes at Tim Hortons Field.

The Tifton, Georgia native filled up the stat sheet by matching a career-high eight tackles, while adding a sack and forcing two fumbles that were both recovered by the Tiger-Cats.

The first-year player recorded his second career sack midway through the second quarter when he was able to bring down Rakeem Cato for a 13-yard loss to stall the Alouettes’ drive.

Dean’s first forced fumble came in the third quarter after Rakeem Cato completed a short pass to Nik Lewis. After a three-yard gain, Dean tackled Lewis and stripped the ball away where it was recovered by teammate Emanuel Davis.

On Montreal’s next possession, Cato completed a pass to B.J. Cunningham; Dean met him after another short gain and was able to jar the ball loose and Davis once again was able to recover the fumble.

Dean ranks second on the Tiger-Cats with 58 tackles this season.

QB | BO LEVI MITCHELL | CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Calgary Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell continued his surge and helped his team to extend its unbeaten streak to 11 games following its 48-23 home victory over the Ottawa REDBLACKS.

Mitchell completed 23 of 35 passes for 353 yards including two touchdown passes in Saturday’s game.

The product of Eastern Washington threw his first touchdown to Marquay McDaniel from 24 yards out to give the Stampeders a 12-4 advantage. His second touchdown came with under five minutes to go in the game after he found DaVaris Daniels for an acrobatic touchdown reception to put the game out of reach for the REDBLACKS.

In his fifth season in the CFL, the Katy, Texas native is on pace to break several of his personal bests including passing yards and touchdowns.

Mitchell has surpassed 300 passing yards in five consecutive games.

Mitchell is currently second in the league in passing yards (3,936) and first in touchdown passes (22).

Mitchell was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the month for of August as well as a Top Performer of the Week during Week 6.

Davis notched his fourth interception of the season after catching a tipped ball from Rakeem Cato in the second quarter. Davis retuned it 23 yards upfield to give the Tiger-Cats favourable field position.

The interception was his 9th career interception in the CFL.

The former East Carolina Pirate added two fumble recoveries in the third quarter after his teammate and fellow Week 13 Shaw Top Performer Larry Dean forced the fumbles.
