Toronto Indoor Tackle Football League prepares for 2011 season

The Toronto Indoor Tackle football league is the premier men’s indoor football organization in Canada with a history going back 5 years. Entering its 3rd year of operations under the supervision of Commissioner Jim Catton, the league is eagerly anticipating its most competitive season so far.

In 2010, the TiTFL registered over190 players and hopes this season to reach over 250 players.
The TiTFL operates out of the Downsview Hangar and will begin play on January 16th 2011. The games are fast paced, 7 on 7 action that focus on pure game action (no kicking game) with only 2 inelligible linemen. The league will field 10-12 teams that will play an 8 game regular season along with a playoff and a minimum of 2 all-star games.

Another focus of the league is its all-star/travel team, the TiTFL Hammers. In the past, the Hammers have held all-star games at home hosting the Montreal Titans indoor team and the Buffalo Gladiators indoor team. The Hammers have also hit the road playing the Gladiators last season in Rochester, and will be travelling to Salisbury, Maryland on Dec 18th 2010 to play the Team USA indoor football team. The TiTFL also uses these game as an opportunity to give back by hosting an annual charity game to raise money for the Sunnybrook Hospital Spinal Care Unit.

For the TiTFL, 2010 was a banner season for the league which featured 8 competitive teams. It was the Dragons, led by former Hec Creighton nominee Kelly Hughes who went on to win the Championship. The Dragons also featured standouts like Jonathon Hood, who parlayed his playing time into a roster spot on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Callan Exeter, the former AUS all-star, who used his playing time to be prepare for his return to Mount Allison. In the finals they were able to defeat the Outlaws by a score of 48-23. The Outlaws were led by York QB Nick Coutu on offence and 3-time CJFL defensive player of the year Aram Eisho on Defense.

The 2011 season will begin January 16th. Games will be scheduled for either 7:00-8:30pm or 8:30-10:00pm. Teams are preparing for the season and the league is accepting free agent signings and will be placed on teams where they best fit. Fees for players range from $150-200 (depending on extra expenses like jerseys). Players are also required to provide their out equipment.
