Blanc, a 6-foot-1, 240-pound defensive lineman in his second campaign with the Carabins, was credited with a half sack early into the third quarter and then dropped Bishopβs pivot Jordan Heather for a loss of 15 yards at the Gaitersβ 37 two minutes into the fourth frame. The Montreal native finished the afternoon with 4.5 tackles.
DβAguilar became the first player in CIS history to rack up 12.5 sacks in a single campaign on Oct. 13 when he tackled Windsorβs Austin Kennedy behind the line of scrimmage in the Maraudersβ seventh game of the season. The lineman from Hamilton couldnβt add to his total in McMasterβs OUA finale a week ago.
Blanc benefited from the fact RSEQ teams have been playing a nine-game conference schedule since 2010.
Prior to this season, the national standard of 12 sacks was shared by former Bishopβs legend Leroy Blugh (1988) and former Queenβs great Jim Aru (1996).
In addition to the single-season sack record, two more CIS marks were either broken or tied this fall.
University of Sherbrooke kicker William Dion had one field goal against McGill on Saturday to finish his five-year university career with 82 in league play. The senior from Drummondville, Que., became the all-time CIS leader back on Oct. 6 when he split the uprights for the 72nd time, one more than Calgaryβs Aaron Ifield (2006-10).
Since then, Ottawaβs Matthew Falvo also passed Ifield on the all-time CIS list. The native of Welland, Ont., finished his five-year career with the Gee-Gees last weekend with 75 field goals.
Finally, University of Saskatchewan defensive back Bryce McCall tied a CIS mark last Saturday against Alberta when he registered his 21st career interception to join Saskatchewanβs Bob Coffin (1970-74), Peter McNabb of Toronto and Queenβs (1970-72 / 1973-74) and Westernβs Matt Carapella (2004-08) atop the leaderboard. McCall, a fifth-year senior from Regina, couldnβt add a record-breaking 22nd pick in his final career conference game Friday night against UBC.
