Volontaire CB, Cavalier REC now with Vert & Or

Sherbrooke welcomes two commits to their Class of 2017.

While one will be close to home and the other won’t, both Philippe-Andrew Pinkos, a cornerback from Cégep de Sherbrooke and Maxime Giroux, a receiver from Champlain Regional College, will be suiting up for the Sherbrooke Vert & Or.

Philippe-Andrew Pinkos wouldn’t be the first member of his family to hit the field in the green and gold. His older brother, Antoine, spent five years playing with Sherbrooke. Now, his younger brother will be following suit. He hails from Stoke, Québec, which is a little north of Sherbrooke.

“I was really interested by the school’s administration program because of its coop system and I think I will enjoy the team spirit,” Pinkos said about his decision to commit to the university. “(The coaches are) excellent. They seem dynamic, funny and really intelligent.”

The 6’0, 205lbs athlete spent his time playing with Les Volontaires du Cégep de Sherbrooke. He added that, “I am grateful for this opportunity and (I’m) ready to work hard to make this team win a lot of games.”

Maxime Giroux

Maxime Giroux is a pretty humble character. “I won an award at Bruno Heppel football school, but beside that I’ve been low profile,” he said. “I always been doing decent until 2015 when I had a really great season with the Champlain Cavaliers (RSEQ Division 3).”

Now, after missing most of the 2016 season after receiving ACL surgery on October 7, he will have a chance to display his talents at the U Sports level. “My friend, Pat Chenard, told me a lot of good things about the campus and the city,” he said, adding that he is interested in taking kinesiology.

Giroux, who hails from Brossard, Québec, which is a suburb of Montréal, added that, “He told me that being far from his hometown helped him a lot to focus on his homework and his training. I think this is exactly what I need also.”

The 5’8, 180lbs athlete has played for nine years with Les Rebelles de Saint-Hubert and the South Shor Jr. Bruizers (Quebec Junior Football League). He will now look to hone his skills under Sherbrooke’s coaching staff. “(They’re) a young group of coaches that are ready to do anything it takes to win,” he said. “Head Coach Lecompte has the ‘S’ inked on his heart and he’s investing a lot of time on the program and I think it will show this season.”
