Concordia coaches welcome receiver Uunda Obo’o
Head coach Mickey Donovan is pleased to announce Uunda Obo’o, a highly recruited receiver from Champlain College, Lennoxville, has committed to the Concordia football team and will join the Stingers at training camp in August.
βUunda was highly rated across the country, everyone wanted him,β said Donovan. βHeβs a really big commitment for us this recruiting class. I believe that at the end of the day, he felt like Concordia was home for him. We are very excited to welcome him to the family.β
Oboβo comes from the powerhouse Champlain Cougars program where he played for three years, including the 2015 championship season. In his final season in Lennoxville, he was the Cougarsβ leading receiver with 57 catches for 777 yards and five touchdowns in nine regular season games. He ranked third in the CΓ©gep Division 1 ranks for receptions and fifth for total yards.
He also enjoyed a very successful high school career with the Rebel de Γcole secondaire de la MontΓ©e. He was an all-star in his final two years and part of the Bol dβor juvenile 2B championship team in 2013.
The Sherbrooke, Que. native currently checks in at six foot three, 215 pounds. Oboβo has already drawn comparisons to Cory Watson, the former Stinger all-Canadian now playing with the Edmonton Eskimos
βWe like his frame. You canβt teach size,β said Concordia receiver coach Mike Harrington. βHeβs a physical player and he likes to block. Heβs a smooth runner and a good route runner. He can play everywhere and that will help him find a way to get on the field which we expect him to.β
βHeβs got the size to play inside and the speed to play outside,β added Donovan. βThatβs what makes him so special.β
Oboβo is quick to share the credit for his reaching the next level and his football success.
βI want to thank my family, God and my former coaches J.F. Joncas and Marc-Antoine Joseph,β he said.
And heβs excited about his next football adventure and his future at the university level.
βHere at Concordia, I feel the same way I did at Champlain,β Oboβo said. βItβs a brotherhood. I feel like Iβm home.β
