Montréal Carabins have history of success, great coaches, says commits

The Carabins add one local and one international commit to their Class of 2018.

Darcy Jeannis, a linebacker from Collège Montmorency, and Thibault Van-Elsue, a defensive back from Cégep de Lévis-Lauzon, may come from different countries, but they’re united by language, and the University of Montréal Carabins.

When Darcy Jeannis crosses the river into Montréal, Québec, the product of Laval won’t be heading into unknown territory. “I have familiar faces there. Hopefully they will help me adapt and progress at the next level,” Jeannis said. “A number of people who have been with me throughout my football career up to now have ties with the university, so the culture kind of tainted me if you know what I mean.”

The 6’1, 190lbs defensive back and linebacker added that he chose Montréal because it is close to home. “It is also a team that has a history of proven success,” he said.

While Jeannis has yet to meet most of the coaching staff, he heard about Coach St-Vilien because he used to coach at Collège Montmorency. He added that he is looking forward to meeting his new coaches.

Jeannis played for the Kodiaks du Collège Mont-Saint-Louis (RSEQ) in high school. After five years there, he took his talents to Les Nomades du Collège Montmorency (RSEQ Division 1) where he played for three years.

CFC60 Thibault Van-Elsue

After high school, Thibault Van-Elsue made the decision to come to Canada to study and play football. Originally from Rouen, France, he will continue his academic and athletic career in La Belle Provence.

He said he chose the Carabins “for the coaching staff, the team spirit and the feeling that I had after my visit,” adding that he thinks the coaching staff is the best in Québec and Canada.

Standing at 6’0, 200lbs, Van-Elsue spent his cégep career with Les Faucons du Cégep de Lévis-Lauzon (RSEQ Division 1). This past summer, he was named as an “all-player” at the Euro U19 American football championships. He is interested in studying kinesiology.
