McGill welcome two locals to family

McGill adds two commits to their 2019 class.

While they may have been on different sides of the ball, wide receiver Jason Roy and defensive lineman Jacob Lavoie from Collège Lionel-Groulx will be continuing on as teammates on McGill.

Jason Roy is confident that he can fulfil his dreams McGill. “I chose McGill because they have a coaching staff that can bring me to another level,” he said. “The fact that McGill is the best university in Canada also influenced my choice.”

Roy, who is interested in communication studies and marketing, added that he believes the team has a great coaching staff. “I think they are a coaching staff that will make me a better player…The program is building, and I want to be a part of that,” he said.

The 6’3, 197lbs slotback and wide receiver spent five years with Les Centurions de la Polyvalente Deux-Montagnes (RSEQ) before spending four years with Les Nordiques du College Lionel-Groulx (RSEQ Division 1). He is from Sainte-Thérèse, Québec, an off-island suburb of Montréal. He is a three-time all-star, once in high school and twice in cégep. In 2016, he was named as the MVP of the Bol d’Or. He was an MVP with Les Nordiques last season.

Jacob Lavoie

Jacob Lavoie is 6’3, 230lbs and primarily plays as a defensive end and defensive tackle. Hailing from Sainte-Thérèse as well, he played with Les Loups de Cure Antoine Labelle (RSEQ) in high school and Les Nordiques in cégep. Ron Hilaire, the team’s head coach, described him as having a “relentless motor with great mixture of size and speed.”
