CFL Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Month 2012 – August

TORONTO – Anthony Calvillo, J.C Sherritt, Chris Williams and Jon Cornish were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Month for August, the Canadian Football League announced today.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Gibson’s Finest CFL Offensive Player of the Month

Anthony Calvillo

QB – Montreal Alouettes

Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo was named the Offensive Player of the Month for August. Calvillo completed 64 of 97 passes for 1,024 yards and seven touchdowns, leading the Alouettes to a perfect 3-0 record in August.Β Β During that span, Calvillo threw for at least 300 yards in each game and also had four carries for 38 yards.

Gibson’s Finest CFL Defensive Player of the Month

J.C Sherritt

LB – Edmonton Eskimos

Edmonton Eskimos linebacker J.C Sherritt was named the Defensive Player of the Month for August. Sherritt compiled 29 tackles, three interceptions and forced one fumble, helping the Eskimos to a 2-1 record during the month of August. This is Sherritt’s second straight Defensive Player of the Month award as he continues to be a dominating force on a strong Eskimo defence that is looking to catch B.C for first place in the tight West Division.

Gibson’s Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Month

Chris Williams

KR – Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Hamilton Tiger-Cats kick returner Chris Williams was named the Special Teams Player of the Month for August. Williams returned 15 punts for 246 yards and two touchdowns in three games during August. This is the second Player of the Month award for Williams in the 2012 season.

Williams’ two punt return touchdowns in August brought his total to five kick return touchdowns on the season, tying Henry Williams, Bashir Levingston and Keith Stokes for the most in a single CFL season.

Gibson’s Finest CFL Canadian Player of the Month

Jon Cornish

RB – Calgary Stampeders

Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish was named the Canadian Player of the Month for August. The New Westminster, B.C native ran for 372 yards on 56 carries and caught eight passes for 75 yards in three games during August. Since the Stamps’ bi-week, Cornish has earned two Player of the Week awards and his first Player of the Month award of the 2012 season.
