No. 3 Montreal rallies to beat McGill to remain undefeated (stats)

MONTREAL – Second year running back Rotrand Sené (Montreal) rushed for 202 yards and the game winning nine-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter as the third ranked University of Montreal Carabins (4-0) came-from-behind to defeat the winless McGill Redmen (0-4) 24-11 in CIS football action Friday night at CEPSUM Stadium in Montreal.

The Montreal comeback overshadowed another stellar performance by McGill third-year kicker Austin Anderson (Canmore, Alta.) who split the uprights from 34 and 32 yards to give the Redmen a 10-0 lead at halftime.

But Carabin receiver Frank Bruno (Montreal) sparked the Montreal rally hauling in a 28-yard Alexandre Nadeau-Piuze (Repentigny, Que.) touchdown pass 5:33 into the third quarter to reduce McGill’s advantage to 10-7. It was one of Bruno’s seven catches on the night, resulting in 131 yards.

After a rouge by Redmen punter Tomas Silva (Kingston, Ont.) made the score 11-7, Sené put the Carabins up for good 1:48 into the final quarter, while kicker Alexandre Sy (Toulouse, France) accounted for the rest of the scoring on a pair of rouges and field goals.

Fifth year Montreal quarterback Alexandre Nadeau-Piuze went 18-of-27 for 251 yards in the win, while McGill pivot Ryne Bondy (Richmond Hill, Ont.) went 26-of-48 for 270 yards in the loss.

The Carabins put their perfect record on the line next Saturday when they travel to Sherbrooke to face the Bishop’s Gaiters while the Redmen host the Sherbrooke Vert & Or.
