Rebels Blinded by the Sun

Victoria Rebels fall below .500 with 44-27 loss to the Okanagan Sun

The Victoria Rebels tried to climb above the .500 mark as they played host to the Okanagan Sun Sunday afternoon at Bear Mountain Stadium in Langford.

The race seemed tight as the board remained at zeros through most of the first quarter. The only score of the first quarter was a Quinn Van Gylswyk field goal as time ran out. Okanagan took their first lead with a second quarter touchdown but the Rebels answered right back with a touchdown pass from Cat Todorovich to Kyle Pich giving the Rebels a 10-7 lead. The Sun retook the advantage with two more second period majors to make the score at halftime 22-10.

The second half began with a Rebels field goal to bring the hometown squad to within 9 points but that would be as close as Victoria would come. The Sun then passed for two third quarter touchdowns and added a safety to make it 38-13 after forty-five minutes. Todorovich threw two fourth quarter touchdowns to Travis Corazza to bring the home side to within 14 points but the Sun picked off a pass in the end zone in the final two minutes to thwart the comeback attempt. Final Score Sun 44 Rebels 27.

Sam Adu set a new club record for all time rushing yards with a total of 92 previously held by Karim Loewen in 2000. The Sun move to 8-1 on the season and the Rebels fall to 4-5.

The Rebels conclude their regular season Sunday October 3rd on the road against the Okanagan Sun.
The Rebels then begin playoffs with details TBA.
