The South Surrey Big Kahuna Rams clinched a BCFC playoff berth with a 31-14 win over the Chilliwack Huskers on Sunday, marking a milestone 22nd consecutive playoff appearance for the Surrey Rams Junior Football Club, ten as the Surrey Rams(1989-1998), seven as the South Fraser Rams(1999-2005) and the past five as the South Surrey Big Kahuna Rams (2006-2010).
The Rams 22 in a row moves them ahead of the Vancouver Meralomas, (who went 21 straight from 1961 to 1981), and into the number two slot on the all time BCFC list for consecutive playoff appearances, only the Okanagan Sun have had a longer run at 29 (1982-2010).
The Rams have not missed the post season since their expansion season in 1988, the Sun also last missed the post season in their expansion season,1981.
The Rams also moved into a tie with the Vancouver Blue Bombers for third spot in the BCFC’s all time total playoff appearances spot with 22, leading the way in that category are the Meralomas with 31, then the Sun at 29.
The Vancouver Meralomas and the Vancouver Blue Bombers were original BCFC teams in 1947 and dominated the BC Junior loop for 30 seasons until the late 1970’s.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
