SFU’s Palmer Named GNAC Football Offensive Player of the Week


Burnaby, B.C. – Simon Fraser University Clan running back Bo Palmer (North Vancouver, B.C.) has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after his Shrum Bowl winning performance. Palmer rushed for 128 yards and one touchdown in SFUs 27-20 win over the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds on Friday night to give the Clan their first win of the 2010 season.

GNAC PLAYERS-OF-THE-WEEK: Offense – Bo Palmer, Simon Fraser (RB, 5-9, 185, So., North Vancouver, BC � Windsor) came off the bench to rush for 128 yards and one touchdown as the Clan beat UBC 27-20 in the Shrum Bowl, earning its first victory of the season. Palmer scored on a one-yard run in the first quarter and later ran 60 yards to set a third-quarter field goal giving SFU a 27-13 lead. Defense Caleb Singleton, Western Oregon (DB, 6-4, 215, Sr., Salem, OR West Salem) had a pair of fourth-quarter interceptions to seal a 40-27 win for the Wolves at St. George, Utah. His first theft came in the end zone and his second came with 1:10 remaining enabling WOU to run out the clock. He also had a team-high nine tackles, a blocked pass and a blocked PAT. On the season, Singleton leads the GNAC with five interceptions and ranks 12th in tackles with 39. Special Teams jordan McGowan-Smith, Humboldt State (DB, 6-0, 175, Jr., Santa Rosa, CA) returned a punt 87 yards for a touchdown to give the Lumberjacks a 28-17 lead early in the third quarter on the way to a 49-32 victory. McGowan-Smith also had five tackles, including four solos. His return was the third longest in GNAC history.

OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES: Quarterback Ryan Robertson pass for a career-high 322 yards and three touchdowns leading Central Washington to a 27-0 shutout of Southern Oregon. Robertson threw TD passes of eight yards to Demetrius Guice in the first quarter, 16 yards to Levi Taylor in the second quarter and 14 yards to Jamal Weems in the fourth quarter. . .Dixie State quarterback Cody Stevenson passed for a GNAC season-high 330 yards completing 19 of 32. He was, however, picked off three times.
