St. Leonard coach resigns after brawl in the stands; organization apologizes (VIDEO)

The head coach of the St. Leonard junior football team (Ontario Football Conference) that was involved in the recent brawl in the stands, resigned today.

The St. Leonard cougars fight between players and fans in hamilton has become an international phenomenon thanks to the video put on you tube. (see below)

Statement from cougar website:
“The cougars organization would like to apologize for the poor behaviour of its junior team”.

“We would like extend our most sincere apologies to our fans in Quebec, our sponsors, who have supported us over the years as well as to the City of Hamilton and the real fans of the Hamilton Hurricanes.”

The Cougars organization is also conducting its own internal investigation in order to take disciplinary actions against players and coaching personnel involved in the brawl.

The team’s apology was accompanied by clarifications, seemingly aimed at shifting some of the blame to Hamilton officials.

The organization criticized the Hamilton Hurricanes for failing to abide by an OFC rule which states that spectators are not to be allowed behind the visiting team’s bench.

The Cougars also claimed that proper security was not provided.

The team further alluded to failures by the head referee.

Hamilton police say the file remains open but that criminal charges cannot be laid until an alleged victim comes forward.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
