Spring has sprung in BC as all six BCFC teams are preparing for the official kick off to the 2011 season; Spring Camps.
The defending BCFC Champion Vancouver Island Raiders are coming off their fifth straight Cullen Cup title and third consecutive appearance in the Canadian Bowl. The Raiders will once again be at the top of the standings in 2011 looking to retain their title. A number of the Raiders weapons should return as well as head coach Snoop Blokker and the majority of the coaching staff.
The Raiders will host their Spring Camp May 13-15.
The Okanagan Sun finished on top of the BCFC in 2010 but dropped the most memorable championship game in their own back yard last season. The Sun named Jason Casey their new head coach this offseason and do expect most of their players to return. The Sun had the best defence in the Canadian Junior Football League in 2010 and coach Casey does expect the majority of the defence will be back with some key additions.
The Sun spring camp is schedule for May 13-15.
The South Surrey Rams had the busiest offseason of all the BCFC teams. The Rams took their operations to Langley and announced a new head coach. Jeff Alamolhoda takes the reins after a stint as the defensive coordinator in Chillliwack. The Rams are looking to improve on their 5-5 season in 2010 and are hoping to make some big improvements.
The Rams will execute their spring camp May 13-15.
The final playoff team from 2010, the Victoria Rebels have also had an interesting offseason. Itβs the first offseason without former President Roger Wade who stepped down during last season. The largest change came in their name as they changed from Victoria to the Westshore Rebels for 2011. Head coach John Cardilicchia returns on the sidelines as he looks to fill a number of holes to improve on their 4-6 record.
The Rebels will hold their spring camp April 8-10
The Kamloops Broncos are coming off one of their most exciting seasons, finishing one win shy of a post season berth. 2011 could be a break-out season for the young Broncos with their returning quarterbacks and a new and fresh outlook. The Broncos are the third BCFC team that will have a new head coach patrolling their sidelines, as former BCFC player Duncan Olthuis takes the helm.
The Broncos host their 2011 spring camp May 7-8.
The Chilliwack Huskers are coming off a winless season but have high hopes for 2011. Head coach Luke Acheson returns as the main man for his second season and has a better understanding of what is needed to be successful in the BCFC. Acheson will have a few new coaches on his staff including Joe and Jon Klyne as the defensive and offensive coordinator respectively.
The Huskers spring camp will be April 29-May 1.
The 2011 BCFC season kicks off July 30, with the winner hosting the Intergold National semi-final game in October.
