2025 CFC50 High School Rankings WEEK 1: Preseason chaos causes rankings shuffle

CFC50 HIGH SCHOOL RANKINGS WEEK 1

Who’s ready for another roller coaster ride across Canada?

It’s our favourite time of year with the first edition of the CFC50 High School Rankings taking centre stage as we get ready to track all the madness from the first whistle to the last, and every triumph and heartbreak in between.

The action has already kicked off in many provinces, and there’s been no shortage of surprises to shake up the first edition of the rankings.

If the first two weeks of matchups are any indication, we are in for a wild season of high school football in the Great White North!

  • We begin our recap with the reigning CFC50 National Champions the Harry Ainaly Titans out of Edmonton, who have shown no fear about defending their crown scheduling two tough matchups to kickoff their campaign. They began the year with a coveted rematch against Raymond, who they’ve split the difference against in the last two provincial finals, and they continued their winning ways securing their third straight victory against the Comets with a 28-14 victory. They then turned their attention to Lethbridge CI where they extended their winning streak to 16 straight after handing the Rams a 27-14 defeat. Despite the loss, Lethbridge will be grateful to get a good idea of where they truly stand in the Alberta hierarchy early in the season after a triumphant 50-0 win over Foothills in their first contest.
  • After taking home their first Saskatchewan 6A provincial title since 2003, St. Joseph wasn’t ready to rest on their laurels scheduling the Dakota Lancers to begin the 2025 campaign, who have been the undisputed kings of Manitoba football for the past two seasons. The Lancers entered the contest riding a 15 game winning streak, but the Guardians were able to reset that tally back to zero with a decisive 30-15 victory, and have now entered the top three conversation alongside Harry Ainlay and Huron Heights in our Week 1 Rankings. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a reigning champion out of Saskatoon – 14 years to be exact – but as of right now it’s looking like the Guardians are going to be tough to knock off their perch in 2025. On the other side, Dakota has no time to lick their wounds with a marquee championship rematch against Oak Park to kickoff the WHSFL season.

CFC100 CLASS 2026 RANKINGS

  • What just happened in British Columbia? Yes, it’s only exhibition, but Robert Bateman have put every AAA team on notice that they aren’t just moving up from AA to fill the numbers after taking the defending champions Vancouver College to the brink in a hard-fought 20-17 overtime loss. The Fighting Irish have won three straight provincial titles while riding a 39 game winning streak, and hold a 67-3 record dating back to 2018. Vancouver College is the team everyone dreams about beating, and in their first AAA contest, the Timberwolves nearly pulled it off. Maybe they tumble down the rankings when reality sets in throughout the regular season, or potentially this is the year the Fighting Irish finally relinquish their chokehold on the province, but as of right now we have no reason to doubt that Bateman could be a serious contender after dominating the AA ranks for years.
  • Elsewhere in Rose Country, Notre Dame (CGY) shot up the rankings after a 14-14 tie against out-of-province opponent Holy Cross, who have been a perennial powerhouse in Saskatoon, and are looking to reclaim their city crown after falling short against their local rivals St. Joseph last season. It’s still yet to be seen how the Pride will stack-up against Ernest Manning and St. Francis in the Calgary DI league, but it could be a great sign of things to come if they can build on the momentum heading into the regular season.
  • On the flip side, Ernest Manning dropped their first contest 17-16 against cross-province Salisbury, who are hoping they have the firepower to keep pace with Harry Ainlay in the Edmonton Metro league this year. Lastly, St. Francis got off on the right foot with a 21-7 victory over Notre Dame (RD), and Spruce Grove rolled to an easy 38-6 victory over Peace Wapiti.

SEASON PREVIEW ARTICLESΒ

  • On the other side of Saskatchewan, the Miller Marauders have started the season with a vengeance delivering a 44-28 loss to Riffel. The Marauders took a step back last season, but they could be back on top in Regina if their week one result is any indication of what’s to come. Campbell are still the top dog, and navigated a tough matchup against the defending 5A city champs F.W. Johnson to secure a 26-20 victory. We’ll get a better idea of where the Marauders stand when they take on St. Joseph in a juicy non-league matchup on Friday.
  • We wrap-up this week’s coverage with a detour in Quebec where Juvenile DI kicked off their regular season. The big talking point after the first slate of games was College Bourget taking down last year’s runner-ups Cure-Antoine-Labelle in a 19-14 triumph. The defending champs Saint-Jean-Eudes picked up where they left off with a breezy 44-7 victory over Saint-Louis, while Charles-Lemoyne took down Saint-Francois in a 39-24 victory. Geography be damned, Quebec was truly the Wild West last season with what felt like an unlimited amount of twist and turns, so it will be interesting to see if parity is the name of the game again in 2025, or if a couple teams can breakaway from the pack.
