2025 CFC25 Small School RANKINGS: St-Jean-Vianney and John Barsby rocket up the ranks

TOP HEADLINES

• We’ve got a new hierarchy emerging in British Columbia with John Barsby leaving no doubt about their intentions this season with a 55-18 blowout victory over the defending AA champions Windsor. This victory launches the Bulldogs into the top ten conversation, and also helps lift Ballenas’ ranking because of their 28-28 tie in the season opener. Looking at their schedule, we anticipate John Barsby should be able to take care of business in their next three contests before meeting with Ballenas again for a juicy rematch in the regular season finale. Argyle also join the rankings after securing their first win of the season over Holy Cross after a tough exhibition schedule, and we are looking forward to seeing how they match-up against Ballenas on October 17th.

• We weren’t exactly sure where St-Jean-Vianney really stood in the chaotic Juvenile DII picture, but we’ve got a much clearer image now after the Dragons managed to get the better of Estacades in a thrilling 38-31 overtime victory. They still have one loss on their resume against top ranked Dalbe-Viau, but we believe St-Jean-Vianney has the right ammunition to run with the top guns and should be a threat to win it all if they continue to elevate their game heading into the postseason.
• If you want to talk about chaos, look no further than Alberta Tier II this season. Catholic Central have exploded onto the scene, and they’ve got another notch in their belt after holding on for a 30-29 victory over a very good Chinook squad to keep their unbeaten streak alive. Are they the team to beat instead of Holy Trinity Academy? It’s still tough to say at this point in the campaign with the Knights in the middle of a CFC50 gauntlet with a string of game featuring 8th ranked Raymond, 34th ranked Lethbridge twice, and next week against #18th ranked Salisbury. They nearly pulled off the upset against Lethbridge in their first contest, and will be chomping at the bit to get another swing at the Rams in two weeks time. In reality the most telling game remaining on Holy Trinity Academy’s schedule will be a marquee matchup against St. Joseph’s to close out the year, who are another team that cannot be counted out of the championship discussion. Then you’ve got George McDougall and Cochrane in the mix, who have been quietly going about their business and also have strong cases that they’ll be the final team standing in November. It’s the type of chaos we live for, and we’re loving watching it all play out in the competitive 4A conference this season.

CFC100 CLASS 2026 RANKINGS

• We’ve got a shakeup in Manitoba with Dryden handing Churchill their first loss of the season in a 35-21 contest. Fort Frances are now the only unbeaten team left standing after surviving 37-31 shootout against St. Norbert, and they’re going to need to keep their foot on the pedal with their final two games of the regular season against John Taylor and Churchill. Right now, it looks like it’s going to be a wild five horse race to the finish line.
• We predicted that Confederation would be the team to beat this year in Sudbury, and they exceeded our expectations with a decisive 35-6 victory over the defending champions Lo-Ellen. It’s gotta be a great feeling, but they have to keep their ears pinned back and take care of business the rest of the way if they want a chance to dance at NOSSA with a spot at OFSAA on the line. The odds won’t be in their favour, but you have to believe that the Chargers locker room think they have what it takes to go all the way this year after a dominant start to the season.
