OMFL: Storm scare the Dolphins away

In Ontario Minor Football League (OMFL) this past weekend the Niagara Storm Varsity and Junior Varsity squads rebounded from the prior weekend to post their best results of the seasons. Both head coaches were happy with the teams play and look forward to more success in the coming weeks.

VARSITY

The Varsity Storm played a strong game from opening kick off return to the closing minute, winning it’s first of the year. Greg Lamb had a strong game completing 2 TD passes, rushing for 1, and adding 4 one point converts and a rouge. Paul Hookings caught 2 touchdowns and Trey Gervais also caught a TD. Kevin Linger had a ‘pick six’ in the winning cause. The Storm won 35 to 21 over the Pickering Dolphins. The turning point was at mid point in the third quarter the Storm defence stepped up and shut down the Dolphins powerful running game. At the same time the offense began to control the ball and clock.

Coach Don Moses had this to say about the performance. “We returned to the basics this week in practice and game planned the same. This is how I knew the Storm could play. The atmosphere was different this week at practice and heading up the 401 to the game. The team was focused. We will continue to build on this and look forward to our next contest against the visiting TNT.”

JUNIOR VARSITY

Like their Varsity brothers the Junior Varsity squad controlled the game with a ball control offense. Graham Dowd # 30 had a strong game with 2 rushing touchdowns. He was a force all game long rushing and catching the ball. Jake Droughan also had a strong game.

The Storm defense controlled the Pickering offense for most of the game only to give up a late score. Liam Bruch made several tackles and had 1 interception. He was just one of the many bright spots on that unit! They played hungry and made plays all day long.

Coach Dave Richardson said this about the win. “Very proud of the kids, they played their best ball so far. But we still have a lot of work to do. Next week will be another test and we have to continue to move forward.”
