Manitoba and Ontario East battle to last play of the game

MANITOBA HOLDS ON TO WIN 14-13 AGAINST ONTARIO EAST

Manitoba played Ontario East in game 6 of the 2011 Football Canada Cup. Ontario East took an early one point lead with a single-point on a missed field goal by Sean Decloux. Manitoba responded towards the end of the first quarter with a 14-yard touchdown run by Chas Moore to put Manitoba on the board 7-1. Manitoba’s lead was extended 10-1 on a 22-yard field goal by Matthew Nikkel. Manitoba added a punt single by Rhys Hansen on 51-yard punt, aided by the wind.

To start the third quarter scoring, Ontario East settled for a Sean Decloux 36-yard field goal after Manitoba’s Brandon Beaudry broke up a sure touchdown connection between Nick Gorgichuk to Danny Vandervoort—making the score 11-4. After a punt single in the 4th quarter, Ontario East tied the score at 11 with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Nick Gorgichuk to Jamahll Charles. An extra point off the foot of Sean Decloux gave Ontario East a single point advantage. Manitoba pushed ahead on a 22-yard field goal at 1:58, set-up by a 52 yard run by running back Blair Mattes.

An Ontario East passing gain of 9 from Gorgichuk to Jamahll Charles with 22 seconds remaining set up a late field goal attempt. The attempt by Sean Decloux missed wide-left, passing through the end zone for a single, making the contest a one point game once again.
Manitoba punted the ball with 12 seconds remaining. There was a bad snap to punter Matthew Nikkel who amazingly managed to get the punt off. A no-yards penalty with zeros on the clock gave Ontario East one final chance to pull ahead on a 40-yard field goal attempt. Sean Decloux lined up for the attempt but missed wide left, giving Manitoba a one point victory.
Manitoba will face Saskatchewan in the fifth place game while Ontario East will face Nova Scotia in Friday’s 7th place game.

LE MANITOBA BAT L’EST DE L’ONTARIO 14-13

Le Manitoba affrontait l’Est de l’Ontario dans le sixième match du tournoi de la coupe Football Canada 2011. L’Est de l’Ontario a inscrit le premier point du match sur un simple à la suite d’un botté de placement raté de Sean Decloux. Le Manitoba a répliqué à la fin du premier quart grâce à une course de touché de 14 verges de Chas Moore, permettant aux siens de prendre les devants 7 à 1. Cette avance a été accrue de trois points (10-1) sur un botté de placement de Matthew Nikkel. Le Manitoba a ajouté un simple sur un botté de dégagement de 51 verges de Rhys Hansen avec le vent dans le dos.

L’Est de l’Ontario s’est ensuite contenté d’un botté de placement de 36 verges de Sean Decloux après que le Manitobain Brandon Beaudry ait frustré ses adversaires en rabattant ce qui s’annonçait comme une passe de touché de Nick Gorgichuk vers Danny Vandervoort. C’était alors 11-4 pour le Manitoba. Après un simple sur un botté de dégagement au quatrième quart, l’Est de l’Ontario a égalisé la marque sur une passe de touché de sept verges de Gorgichuk vers Jamahll Charles. Un botté de transformation de Decloux a procuré une avance d’un point aux Ontariens. Le Manitoba a repris les devants sur un botté de placement de 22 verges à 1:58, suite à une course de 52 verges par le demi offensif Blair Mattes.

Un gain aérien de neuf verges de l’Est de l’Ontario sur une passe de Gorgichuk vers Jamahll Charles avec 22 secondes à jouer a mis la table pour une tentative de botté de placement en fin de période. Cette tentative par Sean Decloux a raté la cible, passant à la gauche des poteaux pour pour un simple, ramenant l’écart à un seul point à nouveau.
Le Manitoba a botté un dégagement avec 12 secondes à jouer. Une mauvaise remise au botteur Nikkel ne l’a pas empêché de dégager le ballon. Une punition sans verge alors qu’il ne restait plus de temps au tableau a donné l’occasion aux Ontariens de profiter d’une tentative de botté de placement de 40 verges. Decloux s’est exécuté, mais il a raté la cible à la gauche, procurant aux Manitobains cette victoire par un seul point.

Le Manitoba affrontera ses voisins de la Saskatchewan dans le match pour la cinquième place alors que l’Est de l’Ontario se frottera à la Nouvelle-Écosse pour la septième position.
