Here is CFCs ranking of the top 10 Varsity & Junior Varsity teams in Ontario summer football. The two leagues that are eligible for this ranking are the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) & the Ontario Football Conference (OFC). These two leagues do not play against one another during the regular or playoff seasons.
A few changes have occurred in the ‘TOP 10’, as a result of week 8 game results and play.

VARSITY (Under 20)
1. (1) Essex Ravens (OVFL) – [7-0]
Played the Halton Cowboys who have scored 13 points in 7 games and average margin of loss is over 37 points. Nick Vincent had another 100+ yard rushing game. The big one to close the season is against the Sault Ste Marie Sabercats. Rushing vs. Passing. Great coaching vs. great coaching. Size versus tenacity. Saturday 7pm…be there.
2. (2) Burlington Stampeders (OFC) – [8-0]
Ended the season with a victory over the Forest City Thunderbirds. Host the Hamilton Wenthworth Panthers in quarterfinal action this weekend. Question is Will QB Will Finch be medically cleared to play after missing the last 2 games of the Football Canada Cup due to emergency dental surgery? Or will it matter?
3. (3) Ottawa Myers Riders (OVFL) – [7-0]
Cruised against the Oshawa Hawkeyes 44 to 14. Mitchell Spence had a big game returning one kickoff for 45 yards and punt 81 yards for a TD. Mike Leno continues to be the workhorse on the ground and the defense continues to lead the league in points against. End season at Pickering.
4. (4) Sault Ste. Marie Sabercats (OVFL) – [6-1]
Another year, another team forfeiting their trip to ‘the Soo’. Like last year Trevor Plumley was thwarted an attempt at 1000 yard rushing year, this year it may preclude QB Casey Wright from leading the league in passing. However, time to look to the next game when they travel to take on the best team in the province. Should be a great one. Rhys Mahler and friends better show up in the front seven.
5. (5) Hamilton Ironmen (OVFL) – [6-1]
Handled the Bisons easily by a score of 56 to 14 and should do the same this weekend against Halton.
6. (6) Twin Cities Predators (OFC) – [7-1]
Closed the season the same way they started it with a victory over Chatham-Kent Cougars. Like the regular season they will open against the same Cougars in the opening round of the playoffs. Scores so far have been 37 to 22 and 22 to 9.
7. (7) Toronto Thunder (OVFL) – [5-2*]
Outmatched the Cornwall Wildcats on the line of scrimmage winning 38 to 7. Omar Williams had 227 yards rushing and the team is closing in on the Essex Ravens for the #1 rushing attack in the OVFL. Host Cumberland Saturday afternoon which should be a great match up.
8. (8) Metro Toronto Wildcats (OVFL) – [5-2]
Defeated the Markham Raiders 35 to 12. Visit the Cambridge Lions Friday evening to end the regular season.
9. (10) Ottawa Cumberland Panthers (OVFL) – [5-2]
Shut down the usually potent Etobicoke offense to just 5 points, winning 35 to 5. Keegan Carruthers and the defense are closing in on the #1 ranked defense (points against) but will be hard pressed to continue that against the potent Toronto Thunder. Great game ahead.
10. (HM) Kingston Grenadiers (OVFL) – [4-3]
Defeated Newmarket easily 47 to 8. Have leaned on the rushing of Josh Thompson all season. Finish the season by hosting Oshawa.
Honourable Mentions:
Brampton Bulldogs (OVFL), Niagara Spears (OVFL), Mississauga Warriors (OVFL)
* Toronto Thunder defeated Etobicoke Eagles in week 1 action in overtime 36 to 30 but the game was forfeited due to ‘ineligible player participation’ – Etobicoke is awarded a 20 to 0 victory

JUNIOR VARSITY (U17)
1. (1) Ottawa Myers Riders (OVFL) – [7-0]
Defeated the Oshawa Hawkeyes 47 to 6. QB Michael Arruda continues to lead the OVFL in passing yardage.
2. (2) Burlington Stampeders (OFC) – [8-0]
No junior varsity team in the OFC has been close to this team. And no other team will be close this year. Open the playoffs against the Forest City Thunderbirds.
3. (5) Mississauga Warriors (OVFL) – [6-1]
Defeated the Niagara Spears 40 to 17, a game we thought would be closer. End season Saturday when they travel to London to take on the Falcons.
4. (7) Toronto Thunder (OVFL) – [5-2]
Blown out by Myers in week 4. Still reeling, lose to Oshawa in week 5. But week 7 was good to the Thunder when they defeated the Hamilton Ironmen 33 to 29. Brett Watson had a monster game passing for over 400 yards. Congrats Brett. End the season against Markham. Dejaun Martin – remember that name. He only caught 276 yards worth against Hamilton.
5. (3) Hamilton Ironmen (OVFL) – [6-1]
Lost their first game of the year to the Toronto Thunder this past weekend 33 to 29. Up until this game have managed to win all the close ones. Must regroup…will sort of…they play Halton.
6. (4) Niagara Spears (OVFL) – [5-2]
Lost to Mississauga Warriors this weekend 40 to 17. This weekend host the talented but young Brampton Bulldogs who are coming off an impressive victory.
7. (6) Cambridge Lions (OVFL) – [6-2]
Defeated underrated London team by a score of 23 to 12. Have a bye this week and will wait to see who they play in the opening round of the playoffs the following week.
8. (8) Essex Ravens (OVFL) – [5-2]
Traveled to Halton and shutout the Cowboys 42 to 0. End season against a talented Metro Wildcat squad. Eli Fera has almost doubled the next top rusher with over 1100 yards so far. Not bad, pretty good.
9. (7) Kingston Grenadiers (OVFL) – [4-3]
Defeated the Newmarket Bucs easily and finish the season with the challenge of beating the Cumberland Panthers
10. (NR) Cumberland Panthers (OVFL) – [4-3]
Defeated Etobicoke 43 to 20 and end the season against the Kingston Grenadiers.
Honourable Mention:
Oshawa Hawkeyes (OVFL), Twin Cities Predators (OFC), Pickering Dolphins (OVFL)

NOTES:
a) teams eligible for ranking play in the OVFL or OFC
b) Contributors to the ranking include CFC reporters, CIS coaches, OVFL & OFC scouts – the pre-season team of contributors totaled 15 individuals…which we anticipate to grow during the course of the season
c) the only rule difference between the two leagues is that the Varsity OFC division plays 3-downs where all others play 4-downs
d) We will rank the ‘top 10’ up until and including the final regular season weekend
e) Have fun
