Alouettes defensive end fined: 2nd CFL player fined in as many weeks for illegal hit

The Canadian Football League (CFL) announced today that it has fined Montreal Alouettes defensive end Kitwana Jones an undisclosed amount for an illegal hit on Toronto Argonauts receiver/kick returner Chad Owens in last weekend’s game played on July 15, 2011.

The hit was deemed to be illegal because Jones, while making a tackle, lowered his head and led with his helmet, which made primary contact with his opponent’s helmet.

Kitwana Shaloyd Jones (born July 7, 1981 in Wilmington, North Carolina) is a Canadian football defensive end for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was signed by the Saskatchewan Roughriders as an undrafted free agent in 2005. Jones has also played professionally for the Edmonton Eskimos. He played college football at the University of North Carolina and Hampton University.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
