Holland College Hurricanes Football Club announce schedule: Hope to increase 2000 fan average

HOLLAND HURRICANES FOOTBALL CLUB ANNOUNCES FALL SCHEDULE

The Holland College Hurricanes Football Club will play an expanded schedule including more home games this year during the Atlantic Football League’s season, which runs from September 10 to November 19.

The team’s home games were well attended last year, drawing on average 2,000 fans per game. Attendance is expected to exceed those numbers for the upcoming season.

“Our home games were very popular during last year’s inaugural season,” said Michael O’Grady, president of the football club and a vice president at Holland College, “and we have worked hard to expand our schedule. Last season’s high-energy events were fueled by chefs from The Culinary Institute of Canada, music from the Holland College Welshmen Community Band, enthusiastic cheerleaders and a competitive and exciting team – fans can expect even more in the 2011 season!”

The Hurricanes open their season at home with a game against the defending undefeated 2010 AFL champions UNB Saint John Seawolves. The game will be an early test for both teams as they enter the very competitive season.

One of the highlights of this season’s play will be a game in Bangor, Maine, between the Hurricanes and the Husson University JV Eagles, who play in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference at the NCAA Division III level.
The 2011 season’s schedule is as follows:

Saturday, September 10 – 4 p.m. HOME UNB Saint John @ Hurricanes
Saturday, September 17 – 7 p.m. AWAY Hurricanes @ Moncton Jr. Mustangs
Saturday, September 24 – 2 p.m. HOME Dalhousie University @ Hurricanes
