Red River Cup: Winnipeg West wins on last play of game over Nova Scotia (video)


The Red River Cup got off to a great start with Winnipeg West winning over Nova Scotia
on the last play of the game.

Winnipeg West started the scoring when Alexander Taylor rumbled 53 yards for a TD on
their first offensive play of the game. Nova Scotia answered when Cameron Valardo
passed to #22 Dustin Brogaard at about 11 minutes when his team gambled on the 3rd
down.

23 minutes into the first half, Winnipeg West scored off a 33 yard pass from #8 Kurtis Parson to
#86 Devon Shepard. Nova Scotia blocked the extra point to make it 14‐14. Nova Scotia’s William
Chamberlain ran the kickoff all the way back, but the play was called back for holding.
With under 7 minutes left in the game, a 57‐yard run by Xavier Prime was fumbled just before
the endzone. The ball was recovered by Nova Scotia on the one. Nova Scotia couldn’t move the
ball and elected to punt out of their endzone. At the two minute mark, Winnipeg West set up
for field goal, but was blocked by Nick Tzaneteas. Nova Scotia moved the ball but couldn’t get
anything going and had to punt it back to Winnipeg West. With no time on the clock, Kurtis
Parson hit Riley Harrison for the game winning TD.
