Many Canadian names are now in the record books including Michael Faulds, Matt Walter, Shamawd Chambers, Scott Valberg, Sammy Okpro, & Troy Walters.

The World champions – United States set multiple team records during their impressive performances throughout the tournament.

The passing yardage record changed hands three times in Austria. Mexican quarterback Rodrigo Perez broke Joachim Ullrich’s record of 249 yards from 2007 when he passed for 261 against Australia and also hooked up on a record-long 76-yard pass completion with receiver Jose Antonio Alfonso.

But then Ullrich claimed his record back with a 280-yard passing display in Germany’s win over Australia and claimed the longest pass completion with a 81-yard touchdown completion to receiver Niklas Roemer. In the same game, Outback passer Kiernan Dorney was also firing passes and bettered Ullrich’s reclaimed record by a single yard with 281 on the day.

Among the headline-making wide receivers of the 2011 IFAF Senior World Championship, Niklas Roemer set a new receptions yardage record of 180 against France in the Fifth-Place game, beating his own record of 153 set earlier in the tournament against Australia. In the tournament, Roemer broke six individual records including touchdown receptions in a tournament with 4, yards per game (108.3), yards receiving in a tournament with 433 yards – the closest to him is 278 yards recorded by USA Nate Kmic.

Mexican kicker Jose Carlos Maltos’ 56-yard field goal against Australia eclipsed the 49-yarder that split the uprights for Japan in the 2007 Gold Medal Game against the United States. Maltos also kicked a 49-yard field goal against Australia.

One of the most tied records over the years – 2 rushing touchdowns in a game – was bettered when Jonathan Barrera claimed a hat-trick of trips to the end zone in a game against Australia and in the process equaled the record number of points scored in a game with 18. The record was tied later in the tournament as Austria’s Mario Nerard recorded three touchdowns in the Seventh-Place game against Australia.

Tyson Garnham of Australia was the first player to break a record in 2011 when he totaled 137 kickoff return yards on 7 returns against the United States, breaking the previous record of 127. That record was in turn claimed by French kick returner Jeremy Larroque when he reeled off a total of 175 yards on only 4 returns against Japan.

Mexican punter Jose Carlos Maltos broke the previous punting average of 45.2 yards with a mark of 46.5 against Germany, but that record also fell later to Luke Fredericks of Australia who averaged a whopping 56.7 yards on 3 punts against Germany. He also boomed a tournament-best 76 yards on a single punt, improving on the previous best by 9 yards.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
