PFC: Huskies Drop Home Game To Regina


The Edmonton Huskies (0-6) continue to look for their first victory of the 2011 campaign as they dropped their recent home game against the Regina Thunder (3-3) 42 – 4 on Sunday, September 25, 2011.

Huskies’ rookie quarterback Trevor Erdmann made his first start of the year, in place of injured Ben Gorniak, and completed 19 of 41 passes for 211 yards and 1 interception. Running back Skyler Sargeant led the team in rushing with 43 yards on 16 carries, while wide receiver Anthony Barrett caught 7 passes for 83 yards of offense. The Thunder’s Asher Hastings completed 18 of 30 attempts for 264 yards, with three touchdown strikes and 1 interception.

The Huskies’ rookie kicker Jonathan Heidebrecht kicked an 85-yard opening kick-off to start the game, putting the home team up 1 – 0. Late in the first quarter, the Huskies would concede a safety, before Hastings would toss a 24-yard strike to put the visitors up 9 – 1 to end the first quarter. The Thunder would strike again with a touchdown early in the second quarter, before closing out the half with a 45-yard field goal by Ben Koot to make it 18 – 1 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Thunder’s Clay Cooke would catch a 34-yard toss from Landon Bessel on the Thunder’s opening drive. Heidebrecht would kick a 36-yard field on the Huskies’ next possession, putting the game at 25 – 4 for the Thunder. The Thunder would later score two more TDs, while adding a field goal.

Defensively, the Huskies’ Reid Knox (15 defenisve points) and Jon Chocair (14 defensive points) made their presence felt, while the Thunder’s Brett Selinger (14 defensive points) and Zack Evans (5 tackles) made impacts throughout the game.

The Huskies head into week 7 with a rematch against their cross-town rivals, the Edmonton Wildcats, on Saturday, October 1.
