Defensive back Jesse Flynn-Levasseur from Montreal has headed down south to division twoβs Eastern New Mexico University to further his football career.
After graduating from St. Francis Xavier University, Levasseur choose ENMU because of the opportunity of gaining experience on and off the field.[PAGE][/PAGE]
βThe reason I decided to attend ENMU was for their great graduate program in sports administration,β he said. Levasseur Earned a Bachelor of Arts in human kinetics at St. Francis Xavier University and said heβs enjoying the culture he is experiencing and has had no issues making Eastern New Mexico home. βItβs been great adjusting to this small southern town as Iβm used to the big city of Montreal.β
As a freshman, Levasseur has been getting use to a different roll with his new team.
βPractices are a lot easier than what Iβm used to because as a backup at ENMU you rarely get any practice reps,β said Levasseur. Some players may have an issue playing a lesser role then theyβre used to but Levasseur said he knows what heβs there for. βI am here for school and a career afterwards so itβs definitely worth it. The feedback Iβve gotten from my coaches is they feel that I can compete in certain positions for the starting spot but currently they are set with their starters for the season.β
Levasseur said playing football in Eastern New Mexico makes you feel sort of like a celebrity because everyone knows who you are and what youβre there for.
βItβs a lot bigger to play football down here because everyone in the school and town knows who you are which is nice. But it also comes with a lot of responsibility and pressure to do well,β said Levasseur.
In 2012 Levasseur is looking to play professional football overseas after receiving offers from a few teams or he might try to gain experience as a coach.
βMy plans after this season are either play overseas for a team in Germany that has already offered me a contract. I also have the opportunity to continue at ENMU as a graduate assistant on the coaching staff which has briefly been discussed with the coaches already.β
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
