Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week 2011 #16: Boyd, Cox, McCallum, Cornish

TORONTO — Cory Boyd, Chip Cox, Paul McCallum and Jon Cornish were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for the 16th week of the 2011 season.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges including: former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan ( @MattDuniganTSN) and Duane Forde (@DuaneFordeTSN), now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Toronto Argonauts running back Cory Boyd has been named Gibson’s Finest CFL Offensive Player of the Week. In Friday night’s 31-29 win over the Calgary Stampeders, Boyd had a season-high 18 carries for 148 yards, including a 35-yarder, and a 13-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Boyd also caught three passes for 27 yards.

Boyd is currently ranked fourth in the league with 813 rushing yards.


Gibson’s Finest CFL Defensive Player of the Week

Montreal Alouettes linebacker Chip Cox has been named Gibson’s Finest CFL Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. On Sunday afternoon, Cox registered seven tackles, a special teams tackle and a quarterback sack for a 13-yard loss. He also knocked down a Quinton Porter pass and intercepted a Kevin Glenn (@qterback5) pass for a 43-yard return in the Als’ 27-25 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.


Gibson’s Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week

BC Lions punter/kicker Paul McCallum has been named Gibson’s Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. In the Lions’ eighth-straight win, McCallum connected on all five field goal attempts, coming from 51, 23, 10, 31 and 28 yards out, and two converts. McCallum also had four punts for 142 yards, with an average of 35.5 yards. His longest punt was 40 yards.


Gibson’s Finest CFL Canadian Player of the Week

RB – Calgary Stampeders

Calgary Stampeders 29 @ Toronto Argonauts 31

Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish has been named Gibson’s Finest CFL Canadian Player of the Week for the second time this season. In the Stamps 31-29 loss to the Toronto Argonauts on Friday night, Cornish had 12 carries for 128 yards, including a 57-yarder, his longest of the season. He also caught two passes for 31 yards and made a special teams tackle.
