DEFENCE: #90 Stefan Charles, Regina

University of Regina defensive tackle Stefan Charles was dominant on the line in the Rams’ 31-22 win over Manitoba on Saturday afternoon.

Charles had back-to-back sacks for the Rams early in the fourth quarter, snuffing out a Manitoba drive as the Bisons had the wind at their back and were attempting to cut into an 11-point deficit.

Manitoba’s previous possession was also stopped by Charles, as the fourth-year Oshawa, Ont. product forced a punt after stopping Bisons quarterback Khaleal Williams for a short loss at midfield on second down.

Charles tied for the team lead with 5Β½ tackles during the win and ends the Canada West season with 27Β½ tackles, 10Β½ tackles for loss, 4Β½ sacks, two pass knockdowns, and a forced fumble.

Regina’s win over Manitoba put them in fourth place in the conference standings and sends the Rams to Calgary for a Canada West semifinal contest on Friday.

SPECIAL TEAMS: #41 Jorgen Hus, Regina

Jorgen Hus had a big impact early in the Rams’ 31-22 win over Manitoba on Saturday.

With Manitoba on third-and-long deep in its own territory on the Bisons’ second possession of the game, Hus broke through their protection and came up with a block on Brendon Bowman’s punt. The ball was recovered by Regina’s Steve Famulak, who took it into the end zone to score the first major of the game.

The block was the first of Hus’ two-year career with the Rams.

Hus, who also serves as the team’s long snapper, has recorded six solo and two assisted tackles on special teams this season.
