VMFL Games of the Week
Midget: North Surrey Bears (6-3-1) at North Delta Longhorns (7-3)
The BC Provincial playoffs continue this weekend in Midget with this match-up which has a lot of history as these two long-time powerhouse teams have had many-a-battle on the gridiron over recent years.
The sixth-place Bears will travel across the city border to North Delta in a rematch of Week 7 which saw North Surrey defeat the Longhorns 43-14. Both teams are evenly matched with each losing a game this year to both Coquitlam and White Rock while the Bears lost a last play effort against Chilliwack earlier in the year. While the Bears were a very rare case of missing from last year’s Finals, the Longhorns hope to make up for their semifinal loss in 2010. Game time is 1:45 pm on Sunday, November 20 at John Oliver Park.
Junior Bantam: Coquitlam Raiders (7-2) at South Delta Rams (7-2)
On any given Sunday they say. Last weekend fans watched as the two top-ranked and undefeated teams, Langley and Royal City, were defeated at the hands of the Coquitlam Raiders and South Delta Rams. As a result, the third-seeded Rams will face the fourth-seeded Raiders in what should be a great game featuring the finesse attack of the Rams versus the grind-it-out style of the Raiders. These two contenders didn’t meet during the year and both only lost games to Langley and Royal City. There are lots of unknowns here except we know it will be a great game to watch. Please note that this game has been moved to Minoru Park in Richmond. Game time is 12:30 pm on Sunday, November 20.
VCFL Games of the Week
League champions in the Pee Wee and Junior Bantam divisions, respectively, will be crowned this Saturday at Samuel Robertson Technical School.
The Pee Wee championship will see Meadow Ridge Gold go up against Abbotsford Black. Meadow Ridge Gold faced a very tough Chilliwack Blue team in the league semifinal last weekend but managed to come away with a 28-14 victory. Abbotsford Black, who went a perfect 10-0 in the regular season, continued their dominance in their semifinal outing against Abbotsford White pounding them by a 46-0 score. Kickoff for the Pee Wee championship game is at 2 pm PT.
The Junior Bantam championship will pit Chilliwack Blue up against Meadow Ridge. These two teams finished tied atop the standings in the regular season with 9-1 records. Both teams’ respective losses came against one another and both were close contests. Maple Ridge beat Chilliwack Blue by a 3-1 score back on September 10 and Chilliwack Blue returned the favour by scoring a 12-11 win in their most recent head-to-head clash on October 29.
Both teams are also coming off strong semifinal performances with Chilliwack Blue pounding Abbotsford 54-0 last weekend while Meadow Ridge easily handled Chilliwack Red by a final score of 38-8.
The winners of the respective games in both divisions will advance to the provincial semi-final with a berth at the 12-man provincial championships in Langley (December 4) on the line.
