During his football career, Peter has played on several different teams. He first played for the peewee North York Grizzlies seven years ago. Additionally, the star tight end/slotback played one season with the Toronto Junior Argos.
For the past two seasons, Peter has played in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) with the Metro Toronto Wildcats. While playing high school football at Upper Canada College (UCC), he was part of the 2010 CISAA Varsity championship team and was twice named grade athlete of the year (grade 10 and 11).
This past summer, the graduating star served as a captain on Team Ontario East at the Football Canada Cup in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Peter’s most memorable football moment is the 2010 CISAA Varsity championship game. In the final, UCC faced Saint Andrew’s College (SAC): their archrival and top ten nationally ranked team.
“I’d say that was our teams best game all season; our running back Alex Malone had a huge game eventually scoring the game winning touchdown in overtime, and then our middle linebacker Sebastian Malo jumped over the line on 3rd and goal from our 1 yard line, getting the sack and saving/winning the game for us,” explains Peter. “It was a huge win for us, because of the rivalry between UCC and SAC and because of how strong of a team they had, and because of how hard we fought all game.”
All the success Peter has achieved in football is due to the “fantastic”coaches that have instructed him over the years.
“My high school head coach Dave Shaw stresses the importance of putting football in perspective in terms of life, he makes sure that we treat it as what it is, just a game, that usually keeps us a little calmer and take the pressure off,” adds the graduating player. “My high school receiver coach this year, Christian Heffernan really taught me a lot about the details, and how much of an impact practicing the little things can have on your game.”
As for other influences, Mike Anello is a player Peter tries to emulate on and off the field. Anello is a former special teamβs player and walk on with the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
“When he played, he played with his heart on his sleeve and everything he’d achieved was through hard work and a relentless attitude,” adds the Upper Canada College standout. “I strive to be a player like him.”
Away from football, Peter likes to act and will get the opportunity to demonstrate his skills in an upcoming high school play. He would like to continue his passion for acting in university while he pursues a degree in either commerce or a bachelor of arts with a concentration in economics.
The UCC standout has learned many things from football, due to those very same coaches who have guided him along the way.
“I’ve learned a lot from my coaches, whether directly or just emulating what they do both on and off the field, which has taught me a lot about work ethic, earning what you get, discipline, teamwork, sacrificing for the betterment of the team,” comments Peter. “They’ve not only taught me how to be a better football player, but about how to be a good person off the field.”
Overall, the football experience has given Peter an invaluable reward.
“I think one of the best things football has given me is the opportunity to meet the people I’ve met, both coaches and players, says the graduating star. “Because of football, I now know players and coaches from across North America that is really great guys I wouldn’t have otherwise met.”
