GW Graham Grizzlies to play in BC High School league in 2012

The BCSSFA (British Columbia Secondary Schools Football Association) held it’s AGM this past weekend and the GW Graham Grizzlies were represented by coaches Andy Uzick, Anthony Breuker, Sean Roach and Laurie Smith. Several items were discussed including baseline testing of all high school football players for a concussion protocol. “The testing before the season starts gives medical professionals an opportunity to be more thorough with the concussion protocol and more certain that it’s safe for players to return to action” noted GW Graham Head Coach Laurie Smith. “I appreciate the leadership BCSSFA is taking in this regard” stated Smith, forecasting that it would soon be mandatory by Provincial legislation.

In terms of the Grizzlies first season, the GW Graham representatives learned they will be competing in the Eastern Conference with Mission, Robert Bateman, Langley Secondary, Rick Hansen, SRT, Abbotsford Collegiate and Pitt Meadows. In total there are 33 teams in BC at the AA level competing for the Provincial Championship set for Saturday December 1, 2012 at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver. Additionally the Grizzlies set their exhibition schedule with games in Oregon, White Rock (Earl Marriott Secondary) and Nanaimo (defending Provincial champion John Barsby Secondary). “We are a brand new program but playing the best teams early will give us a true indication of where we stand” noted Defensive Coach Sean Roach.

The Grizzlies also set their spring camp for May 21 to June 1, 2012 with a jamboree on Friday, June 1, 2012 at Langley Secondary.
