As each season passes, Lucas only gets better. Over the course of his football career, Lucas has bolstered his resume full of experience. The pivot played for the Hamilton-Wentworth Panthers of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC), the varsity Niagara Storm of the South Central Ontario Football League (SCOFL), and his high school team, the Grimsby Eagles.

Lucas experienced his most memorable football moment when he was 17 years of age. That season, he was starting quarterback for the Burlington Braves of the Canadian Junior Football League (CFJL).

Acknowledged for this talent on the field in 2010, Lucas represented Team Ontario West at the Football Canada Cup in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Moreover, the starting quarterback was invited to the 2011 US Army all-American Combine in San Antonio, Texas. As a participant at the Hamilton Ironmen Combine, he was top senior athlete and he ran 40 yards in 4.46 seconds.

Faced with a lot of interest from several Canadian and American universities, Lucas decided to commit to the University of British Colombia (UBC) because it was the right football fit for him.

“I committed to UBC because I absolutely love what Coach Olsen and his staff are doing with the program, he is a phenomenal coach and he has shifted that program around,” says the future Thunderbirds player. “He is also a great quarterback coach and has coached up Billy Greene and helped him to become the successful quarterback he is.”

“The players are very committed and I saw their will and drive to succeed when I visited their campus, and I wanted to be a part of it!”

Achieving major feats on and off the field would not be possible without the encouragement of his parents.

“Without their support and guidance, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” adds Lucas.

As for his football influence, it is Braves quarterback coach Danny Brannagan Sr.
“He pushed me on the practice field and helped me improve to be where I’m at today,” comments the graduating standout.

Away from football, the future Thunderbirds star likes to play drums, and has a passion for snowboarding.

However, football is centre stage. Months away from embarking on the next chapter of his career at UBC, Lucas will use one key lesson from the gridiron to achieve success in all aspects of his life.

“I’d say the things that I have learned through football that I apply in life would be dealing with adversity,” says Lucas. “When you get knocked down, you gotta get back up again.”
