
The Manitoba Bison football team is pleased to announce the commitment of former Winnipeg Rifles quarterback Ryan Marsch for the upcoming 2012 season.
Bison football head coach Brian Dobie talked about the significance of the QB commitment, βThis is a critical signing for the Bisons. Ryan Marschβs accomplishments over the recent years with the Rifles speak volumes for his progression into Bison Football and the CIS. He brings experience, confidence, a tremendous work ethic and great leadership abilities to our Bison Football program.β
Marsch, 20, had an amazing award-winning season at the pivot position in 2011.
– He was named the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) Most Outstanding Offensive Player (the Peter Dalla Riva award) in the 2011 season after compiling 2011 Stats: 192 completions, 307 attempts, 62.5% completion rate, 3030 yards passing, 31 TD passes, 379 passing yards/game in eight regular season games.
– Named The Prairie Football Conference (PFC) Most Valuable Player (MVP) β unanimous β and Most Outstanding Offensive Player in 2011
– Selected as All-Canadian Quarterback for the CJFL in 2011
– Selected to the 2011 PFC All-Star team
– Set new CJFL single season passing record at 3030 yards
– Established new PFC record for touchdown passes in a single game at 7 (Sept. 4/11)
– Tied PFC single season TD record at 31
– Named CJFL player of the week three times during the 2011 season
– Runner-up for Manitoba Male Athlete of the Year in 2011
– Led the Rifles to playoffs in 2011
– Named team captain for the Winnipeg Rifles in 2011 and 2010
In addition, the 6β1β, 205 lbs. quarterback was with the Rifles for three years (2009-11) and junior totals were 296/516 for 4684 passing yards with 41 TDs and 20 INTs and was also named CJFL player of the week in 2009. Before the Rifles, Marsch played high school football for Sturgeon Heights Collegiate from 2006-08 and in 2008, the Winnipeg native led the team to the Vidruk Division champions with a perfect record (10-0). Marsch was also Sturgeon Heights MVP in 2007 and Rookie of the Year in 2006 plus was part of Team Manitoba in 2008.
Marsch commented, βI am very excited to become a Bison this year, I believe we have the tools to become a force in the years to come. Letβs start the hunt for the Vanier Cup!β
