CJFL: British Columbia Football Conference (BCFC) announces unbalanced schedule for ’12

The British Columbia Football Conference (BCFC) is pleased to announce their 2012 regular season schedule.

The Conference has adopted a different format this season with an unbalanced schedule.

The schedule remains a 10 week regular season, however the β€œtop tier” teams will face each other three times this year instead of twice like in years past. For example the VI Raiders and Okanagan Sun will play each other three times with the Raiders hosting two of those games.

The six team league will begin play on Saturday August 4 with a full slate of games. Week one will feature a rematch of the 2011 semi-finals with the Sun hosting the Langley Rams and the Raiders travel to Westshore to face the Rebels. Also in the first week (August 5) the Chilliwack Huskers will be in Kamloops to take on the Broncos.

Both the Sun and Huskers will begin a new era, as the clubs each have a new head coach. Tyson St. James will lead the Huskers, while the Sun are still in search of their new head coach.

This year the stakes are a bit higher as the winner of the Conference will win the right to host the Canadian Bowl on November 10, 2012. The six-time BCFC defending champion Raiders will look to host their third straight Canadian championship after winning the ultimate prize in 2006 and 2009.

BCFC President Frank Naso says, β€œThe new format will mean a couple of things. The competition committee decided it had to be looked at. For the best fan value, have the β€œtop tier teams” play against each other more and get more competitive games that way there will be more parity within the league.”

Frank talks with Ryan Watters about the unbalanced schedule and other changes coming out of the BCFC AGM…
