Spending his entire life on the basketball court, Doug turned to football in his grade 12 year. It paid off as he quickly emerged as one of the top offensive recruits that were available for this year’s class nationally.
This season marked an exceptional campaign on the field for the standout. Doug played a key role in the success of his high school team, the Nelson Lords of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA). The receiver led the team to victory at the Golden Horseshoe Bowl as well as the number one national high school ranking. It was the highlight of Doug’s career and adds that the pregame ceremonies were important yet special.
Recognized for his efforts on the field with the Lords, the offensive standout was team MVP and the school’s athlete of the year. Most recently, Doug was selected to the Golden Horseshoe team that will participate in the all-star game on May 6th at McMaster University. Additionally, he was selected as a Halton Tier 1 all-star.
Next season, the wide receiver will play for the Queen’s Golden Gaels.
“I committed to Queen’s because they have a high academic standard and a history of football tradition, and it felt like home there,”adds the future Golden Gaels player. “Great coaching staff and great players.”
With his meteoric rise up the football ranks, it’s not lost on Doug of the role his family, friends and coaches have played during his career.
“My family definitely influences and inspires me the most in both football and life but my grandpa and my siblings help me the most when I need advice or have a problem,” comments Doug, who also played for the Burlington Stampeders of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC). “Also my coaches and friends influence me and push me to do better and to be great.”
As he prepares to take the next step in what has been an exciting yet successful career thus far, the Lords wide receiver will take the education he’s gotten on the gridiron and use it in his quest to realize more gridiron dreams.
“I learned from football that anything can be accomplished if you put your mind to it,” explains Doug. “I enjoy football and am very passionate about it.”
