Entering his 5th year, Hasan Hazime is a 6’5 defensive end who is putting his skills to work at Akron University in Ohio. Before going to Akron, Hazime took a different route to help prepare for what was to come playing in the US. “I think playing at Vanier College for a year after high school made the transition a bit easier on me since the competition is the strongest level before univeristy ball.”

Starting his University career at the size he did, would not be an issue at many levels of play, but in the states, Hazimes stature at first, caused for a bit of worry. “Being a 230-pound freshmen defensive of linemen at the D 1 level gave me a rude awakening. But nothing I couldn’t overcome with hard work and dedication in the weight room.”

Hazime has been fortunate to learn a lot during his football career, and his words are valuable to players in high school now. “My biggest advice to younger players is grades, grades, grades. Without good grades your talent is useless. Take care of your business in the classroom and strive to improve your game everyday on the field/ weight room. Those players down south live in the weight room and practicing football.”

Separating him from others in high school was his size, but when people doubted the ability to form Hazime into a University player, the Pickering native persevered and proved many wrong. “I was 6-5 230 and pretty fast for my size. You always hear coaches can’t coach size so I guess I was fortunate with that part.”

To date, Hazime has played a lot of football for Akron and looks at the games against their best competitors and the accomplishment of graduating as his biggest moments. ” (My biggest football moments would be) graduating college and playing games against most of the big ten schools.”

As for what’s next, Hazime looks forward to going pro, but he is keeping his future open for other possibilities. “Hopefully turning pro and maybe owning my own business one day.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
