Queens announces eight recruits for 2012; Leroy Blugh stays with Gaels


KINGSTON, Ont. (May 4, 2012) – Queen’s football head coach Pat Sheahan is pleased to announce the signing of eight recruits to the Gaels football program. Lineman Emilio Frometa of Sudbury, Ont., offensive tackle Erick Lessard also of Sudbury, Ont., fullback Brock Barber of Timmins, Ont., defensive lineman Natu Myers of Ottawa, defensive back Mitchell Spataro of Barrie, Ont., and Toronto natives quarterback Max Townsend, offensive lineman Peter Boivin and defensive back Josh Jordan, have all committed to play for Queen’s.

Frometa, Lessard and Barber all are products of the St. Benedicts Bears team in Sudbury, Ontario where the three led the Bears to a city championship. Frometa is set to enter the Arts & Science (Political Science) program at Queen’s and is a three time city all-star and two time GTA all-star. Lessard will study Arts & Science (History) while at Queen’s and is a two time city and GTA all-star while Barber was Athlete of the Year in Timmins and is a city and GTA all-star entering Arts & Science (History).

Joining the three Sudbury high schoolers are Townsend, Boivin and Jordon all from the historic St. Michaels College Kerry Blues program. Quarterback Townsend will take on the Commerce program at Queen’s in 2012 and is a conference all-star along with being his team MVP. Jordon and Boivin were both Team Ontario East 2011 Canada Cup teammates with Jordan entering Arts & Science (Sociology) and Boivin the Engineering program at Queen’s.

A two sport athlete, Spataro joins Queen’s from the Innisville Invaders in Barrie where he was a team captain for both the football and rugby teams. Myers was a team captain and AIA city all-star from the Glebe Gryphons in Ottawa and was a teammate of Jordon and Boivin on the Team Ontario East 2011 Canada Cup squad. Spataro will study Physical & Health Education at Queen’s while Myers enters the Computer Science program.

Coach Sheahan also announced that Napanee, Ont. native Leroy Blugh will be returning for a second season as the defensive line coach at Queen’s.

The Gaels will kick off their 2012 season when they host the York Lions on Monday September 3 at Richardson Stadium.
